Trouble TTC

IF and FMLA/LOA

I have a question, hopefully someone will have an idea about this. Since IF is so time consuming, it is affecting my hours at work between appts and monitoring. I am wondering if anyone knows if IF could be considered an FMLA condition or a leave of absence type thing, or does it depend on the employer?

Re: IF and FMLA/LOA

  • Maybe talk to your HR rep and see if you can use sick time or can you work later on appointment days.

  • I had fmla for IF. As a nurse working 12 hour shifts, there was no early or late enough appointments and I couldn't just take a long lunch. It worked out well. I just got the paperwork from HR and gave it to my RE to fill out. Your work has no say- if your doctor approves it, you get it.

I work for a school district and found out that I cannot use FMLA for IF.  But every job is different, so I would ask someone in your HR dept.  GL!  :)

Not true. Certain qualifications have to be met to qualify for FMLA. OP, your best bet is to speak to your HR department to see if you are eligible for coverage. As long as your employer has more than 50 employees and you are eligible, they must consider your request. GL.

It was my understanding that your work has no say. If your work place is over 50 employees and you have been there for a year or more, you qualify. It is not up to your work to decide your medical necessity. In fact, places of employment can't even ask what condition it's for. The paperwork doesn't list your diagnosis. For all they know, it could be diabetes or a heart condition; anxiety or pregnancy. You are not obligated to tell them what condition it is either.

My HR rep asked what was wrong and what I needed the papers for and I literally said, "You can't ask me that. My doctor says it's a qualifying condition and will fax you in the papers."

  • I think this all depends on wt state you live in. I'm coming up on my second year of FMLA, and jut recently had to get the paperwork re-filed out by RE and when I met w/HR I had to filout whta my medical condition was. On the paperwork for the RE it does ask medical questions. SO I'm not sure but I work for a large company so it coud be different. Good luck!
