When I went for my first visit the nurse informed me that I will more than likely not be getting an ultrasound at my 8 week visit. I understand, I'm just a little saddened by it. With DD and DS we had ultrasounds and I was looking forward to it. Anyone else in the same boat? I'll still be getting one at 18 weeks. Just seems like a long wait. End of rambling. ![]()
Re: A little dissapointed.
I am sorry you have to wait. It is difficult to have to wait so long. I have one next week at about 8 weeks. I am hoping and praying for a great one. My second pregnancy ended in a m/c at 7 weeks so I am hoping for this one!
Sorry you have such a long wait
I was shocked at my first appointment last time when they just took my blood and did an exam. I literally gave my DR a confused look and said "thats it?!" She asked me what I meant and I basically said you didn't even say yes you're pregnant or give an ultra sound. I guess bc of TV I expected to go in and and see an ultrasound right off the bat. haha! Luckily my DR is amazing and as she handed me my file to check out, she told me to stop by US and get one done :]
I had them frequently during my first pregnancy bc of gestational diabetes.
This time around my first appointment I got one bc I had a little spotting. Measured 7 weeks and the time and got to hear the heartbeat. Not sure if I will get as many this time, wait and see I guess.
Best of luck to you!

Its normal. It was like that with my first. I dont know where your from but here in my area there is a "Mother To Be" Spa and you can pay for an amazing ultrasound expierence and it has nothing to do with your doctor.
This is how both my doctors have been too. They have machines right in their office and it's no big deal for them to take a quick peek.
It depends on the doctor. Mine has an older machine that he can use any time. For any major ones he sent me to the hospital.
I had one at my first appointment (at 6.5 weeks) to confirm the pregnancy was in the uterus and calculate the due date. The OB had a machine in the office and did the u/s herself. I'm glad I got one because it turned out I was a week behind where I thought I was. My cycle was always pretty regular but that's what they got based on the measurement. It would have been awkward to find that out at 18 weeks.
I think all doctors are different based on their equipment capabilities and policies but I understand it's still disappointing. I would have been upset if she hadn't done one. Actually she almost forgot, but I was ready to ask. I think it's a good practice at the beginning just to confirm the pregnancy is valid and get a due date.
With our first, we only had one u/s. 20 weeks. I was really disappointed.
Then, I became one of those high risk pregnant ladies and have to have them all the time. While it's great seeing the baby so much, I would give anything in the world to go back and be that woman who only got one.

~Today I am pregnant and I love my baby~
this!
I haven't even been to the doctor yet. I have my first midwife appointment at 11 weeks. I'm hoping to be scheduled for my first U/S shortly after that but who knows!
We get to do u/s at 12 weeks, but only because we're doing the NT and genetic testing. Other than that, it's not done with my doc until 20 weeks. We did get to hear the heartbeat on the doppler at 10 weeks though.
