Hi All,
Just thought I would share some of my labor/birth experiences with you, in case they help you while in labor/delivery.
Labor Summary:
Went in Monday night to have Cervadil place to ripen my cervex wich was less than a cm, 20%, and -3 station.
When they took out the Cervadil the next morning at 10 AM I was only 1 cm, but I was contracting on my own and in labor, so they started monitoring my progress.
After a couple of hours they started me on Pitocin to increase my contractions which it did, but I was progressing really slowly, by the way having your cervix checked will vary from person to person, but on of the 5 L and D nerses I had was not good at it and I thought she was trying to kill me by pulling my heart out through my vagina.
My doctor's collegue came in around 3 and broke my water, this was both painful and kind of disgusting. So they increaed my pitosinc slightly and I began to progress.
At around 8 the contractions got bad enough that I asked for the epidoral (I was planning to get one). After that they had to increase my pitocin as I was progressing slowly.
At around 11 the doctor checked me again, and had to put in internal monitoring to see just how strong my contractions were and to make sure the baby was ok with all the medical interventions that were going on.
I spent the rest of the night laboring slowly and needed to get two additional doses for my epidural.
At about 5 AM the doctor came in to try and convince me to have a c-section. After speaking with him I he relented to let me wait an hour to see how things go (my doctor was due to be at the hospital at 6AM and if I was going to have a c/s I wanted her to make the final decision and to do it).
She showed up and we spoke and I was checked one more time and she was fine waiting a little bit and see how I do over the next two hours.
Well at about 8:45 the nurse came in and said that based on what was happening with my contractions, temperature and the baby (he was occasionally going into distress) I had to have a c/s. I knew this was coming (had hoped and prayed against it), but this was what was going to be best for me and baby.)
They took me into the OR and prepped me. my hubby came in and within a few minutes Ethan was out and they were glueing me back together.
It was determined that I had an infection which could have caused an infection in Ethan, but we were lucky (although he did get antibiotics just to be safe as he came out with a slight fever).
My advice to all you ladies, is to trust your gut, but when push comes to shove, you need to be able to trust your doctor. Listen to your body and be flexible in your birth plan.
Due to the infection as well as the GD I was diagnoside with there were a lot of issues that Ethan and I had to deal with in recovery. I woul dnot want any mom to have to go through that, so make sure you take care of yourself so you can have the best L & D possible!
Good luck to you all!
PS: Even after everything that happend in the 23 hours of labor, it is more than worth it.
