Non CD related- Haier Washing Machine Detergent

A while back I asked about portable washing machines and I know a few ladies on here said they had a portable Haier.

Well, we ended up finding one on CL for a great price and we love it! I have our CD washing routine pretty well figured out, so my question is about when you use the machine for other items. 

How much detergent do you use? I'm just using the same powdered Tide I use on the CDs and have been using about a tablespoon per load. I'm thinking this might not be enough since the clothes don't have that "Tide smell" that they would have if washed in a regular sized machine.

I tried looking this up on Google and couldn't find any info.

I used about 1/2 the amount recommended for a full load in a regular machine.  And I always washed on "Heavy" with warm water, and then a cold wash.  That seemed to work for us!
