Question about loose stool- TMI alert!

Hi! (Apologies if this is discussed somewhere else- I didn't see it.)

I am just about 5 weeks. In the past week, I haven't really had a solid BM. I've done some googling about this but keep finding general info about early pregnancy and diarrhea being common. But, I don't know if I'd call what I have diarrhea.

Basically, I go 2-3 times a day- sometimes it sneaks up on me and I have to hurry but it's generally a quick process. I'm not sure if I'm bloated since I'm plus sized normally- I don't feel super bloated but could be a little. Does this count as diarrhea?

I have had really no appetite but have been getting hungry- mostly I just don't feel like eating anything. I've had some cramping and very very mild nausea but nothing that's long lasting.

Anyone else experiencing this?! Thanks in advance!

Re: Question about loose stool- TMI alert!

  • I have been having the same issue. I kept researching about it, what I found was that there is an ingredient in some prenatal vitamins called ' polyethylene glycol'. It acts as a laxative because a lot of women experience constipation. I went and bought a prenatal today that doesn't have it in it today. I haven't tried it yet, so I guess we will see if it works! I will let you know!

I also read that some women can have "morning sickness" kind of reversed where it comes out the other end! I don't know if I'd rather throw up or be running to the bathroom for diarrhea! :- /

  • I've had this between 4-7 weeks. I never had morning sickness. I guess I'll take diarrhea instead? Smile

  • I am having this with this one. It is not bad at all but a bit weird because of how constipated i was with DS. I wonder if it is my prenatels because I am taking a different brand!

  • I had a few days like this - I think there are so many changes going on inside our bodies that it's only natural for the digestive system to be disrupted.  Does your prenatal have a stool softener in it?  That could be a factor too.

  • Thanks ladies!

Great point about my prenatal vitamin- I never would have thought of that. I checked the website for the ingredients of my prenatal vitamin and I don't see anything like what's been mentioned above so I don't think it's that.

I always think of "diarrhea" as an ordeal- with cramping and non-stop bathroom trips, etc. That's not what I have going on- I just have a few loose stools a day but when they happen, they happen fast and do cause a little discomfort so I guess it counts!

Any other experiences would be appreciated though!

I had this in the 4-6 week range and now I can?t go. I think starting to take the prenatal did something funky to my system and now my body is used to it and Im backed up again which is apparently typical. I would actually prefer being able to go in some form rather than not being able to go. Constipation + bloat = I look like I am 5 months pregnant!

  • Girl.. this has been me for the last week!  It finally subsided yesterday.  I tried doing ginger ale to ease the bubble guts, but it made it worse.  Everything I ate seemed to irritate my stomach more, so I lost my appetite.  I tried eating Triscuits, the Dill flavored ones.. and I haven't had any trouble since.  But, I could pretty much eat the whole box in one sitting :)

FX that the diarrhea subsides mama!

  • No worries girly :]  it's physically impossible for me to have it come out the top end so it comes out of the bottom (last time i vomited was when i was 11 years old and i'm 20 now) so you're definitely not alone!  having the bubble guts can definitely get annoying though cause you feel like you're fine enough to go out and do stuff then suddenly BAM you're not! =p  best of luck to you and your pregnancy!
