1st Trimester

Anyone else had a sinus infection?

I have had this cold for almost 3 weeks and am pretty sure it has turned into a sinus infection.  I don't really want to take anything for it b/c I am scared it might be bad for the baby but I am also worried about what being sick for so long might be doing too.  My entire face (cheeks, eyes, forehead and even my teeth) are in so much pain.  Curious if anyone else has had a sinus infection during first tri and if so, did you wait it out??

  • See your PCP/GP. If its an infection, its best to be treated. Several antibiotics are perfectly safe while pregnant.

  • I was put on Amoxicillin for my sinus infection and was told it was safe for pregnancy

  • You need to see your PCP or OB about it. Sinus infections and congestion issues commonly increase during pregnancy due to increased blood flow around the membranes in your sinus cavity. If it wasn't treated as a cold and has turn into an infection that can cause more issues down the road. Stay ahead of it.

  • You are better off getting to the doctor and getting the infection cleared up. I had two sinus infections, strep throat and an ear infection (lovely) during my last pregnancy. At first I was nervous about taking meds but my doctor explained that the meds are safer than letting the infection go untreated. I took amoxocillin each time and DD is perfectly healthy.

  • You will feel so much better with meds. I don't know how you made it this far without them. I took a z-pack and my GP and OB and pharmacist told me was fine, I also got some OTC meds with help from the pharmacist and cleared it with my OB.
