Constipation

Anyone have any advice? I have to take the vegeterian pre-natal vitamin as I have a very bad allergy to fish. Since I started taking this certain pre-natal I can not go to the bathroom. Called doc and he said drink lots water, eat fiber blah blah blah. All of which I am doing. There is also alot of extra iron in this type of vitamin. I was never like this in my first preganacy 15 years ago. I am miserable and feel so full. Unable to eat. Any one have any suggestions?

  • Colace works WONDERS for me, and my doc said it's fine.  I take 100 mgs once a day, but he said I could go up to 3x a day.

  • Ducolax, colace, senekot, milk of magnesia.... or can you combine a regular vitamin with a folic acid supplement or do some other work around so you're not taking in quite so much iron?

With my first pregnancy I had to take colace all the time. It worked great!!! If that doesn't work my ob/gyn told me to take Miralax. Just follow the directions on the bottle. GL!!!

  • I've got the same problem and it got so bad over the weekend that I had to call my doctor. He recommended (since I was SOOO miserable) to do a Fleet's enema. I wasn't thrilled with the idea, but since I felt so bad I was willing to try anything. I just wish I had done it DAYS earlier! I had relief within minutes!
  • Eat fruit, sometimes that can help. Good luck! It is no fun to be constipated!

This was me last weekend and I drank a large glass of cold prune juice and had relief in an hour! AND, I didn't have to stick anything up my butt! LOL

  • Thank you ladies for all the advice. I went in to see the doc yesterday to check beta and so far all is good. He said to try the Metemucil. I was not like this 16 years ago when I was expecting my daughter. It is extremely uncomfortable and such a new symptom to me. Thanks again.
