What do YOU consider 1st trimester?

By development: ~12 weeks (40 wks divided by major development period)

By conception: ~13 weeks (40 wks divided by 3 equal stages)

By gestation: ~15 weeks (38 wks starting at ovulation, divided by 3 equal stages)

Probably 12 weeks because I want to say I'm in the second tri, that's when we're announcing to everyone that doesn't know already, and the miscarriage risk goes down (but not away).

I always thought it was the end of 13 weeks, because I had a cyst rupture at 13 weeks last time and they kept telling me that it is common in the first trimester. Sure enough, when I looked at my week by week pregnancy book, they had 14 weeks as the "officially" in second trimester. 

If it is commonly thought of as 12 weeks, I would be more than happy to say that is the start of second trimester. Then I don't have to feel such shame for wearing maternity pants in the first trimester-why, I'm just shy of second trimester this way! It also would be nice to be able to tell a few people sooner-I was waiting until 14 weeks but by then I will be simply stating the obvious-it may be just bloat but it sure looks like a baby belly.

12 weeks is my new standard.

I did 13 weeks last time.  I don't know if anything changed so I accepted 14 weeks as my entrance into 2nd tri.

 I don't know why it bothers me when people say 13.3333 weeks is about 13 weeks 3 days?.no it is not! 

 

Also, 2nd trimester is 26.666666?. weeks and that is

26 weeks 4 2/3 days? not 26 weeks 6 days.

In my own head I just consider 13 weeks the last of the first tri and 14 weeks to be the start of the 2nd.

Plus it's kind of a crapshoot to say you're exactly 13 weeks, 3 days, KWIM?  Maybe you're actually 13 weeks, 1 day and in that case, still in the 1st tri
