We mostly use prefolds, and also use cloth wipes with a peri bottle of plain water. DH and I were getting my little girl ready together the other morning and he asked why I didn't wipe her. I told him that I didn't know really, but that sometimes if she is just wet then I'll pat her dry with one side of the new prefold and then flip it to use it.
I imagine this is maybe a "to each their own" sort of thing, but I'm curious what everyone else does.

Re: CP: Pee diapers - do you wipe every time?
I have a boy and don't wipe him every time. If I had a girl I would.
I've had to drip dry a couple times and I've gotten itchy from it. Boys never wipe after going to the bathroom, so I only do DS if his diaper is really full.

This. Don't take this the wrong way, but I don't quite get why you *wouldn't* wipe.

We don't unless her diaper was super wet. Also it depends on the diaper. I'm more likey to wipe her if she was wearing cotton against her skin than if she was wearing suedecloth or fleece against her bum. We've never gotten a bad diaper rash.
But I wouldn't consider wiping with water or a dry cloth to be cleaning the baby. It's just drying them off, which is the same as not wiping if their bum wasn't wet to the touch. The urine is still there until you wash with soap.
Wipe if you want (or not) but I really don't see how not wiping someone's skin is going to cause an infection. You would get an infection from bacteria getting into the urethra. How is wiping a baby's stomach and thighs going to prevent that? Rashiness I can see, but an infection? I just don't see how thats likely.
Also- babies sit in wet diapers for hours at a time. My LO is in a wet diaper for 12 hours overnight. If urine against the skin was a big deal, wouldn't that be the bigger problem?
I get that people just want to wipe for cleanliness but I don't understand the concern that not doing it could cause a huge problem.
This.
DS is a pretty heavy wetter so we wipe with a water/cleanser solution every time or he gets rashy.
