HELP!!! I'm not sure what to do!????

The reason why I posted this is because I called my current gyno with a spotting problem and the sent me to get blood work Wed and Fri last week, they called and my HCG levels are going up and that's good but she still wants me to go back Mon and possibly wed for another round of blood work. Well I had my first baby appointment for Monday and they called and cancelled it basically saying if I was having a miscarriage etc that it would be a waste of there time to start doing appointments at this point. DH and I were not very happy and I'm not sure what to do now, this is #2 for us and we never had any big issues with this office before when LO#1 was born two years ago. DH and other family members want me to start looking for another office because of the current conduct of this one. I don't know what to do HELP!!????

  • I'm a little confused by your post though.... they said your HCG levels were going up but you're still at a high m/c risk with no reasoning?

I'd just find a different OB if you're not comfortable there anymore.

This.  Def time for a second opinion.  It makes no sense for your levels to be rising and yet still be high risk for a m/c.

  • I'm not at high risk for a m/c they just assumed I was having one so they sent me for blood work but now my HCG levels are rising meaning the pregnancy is going well but they still cancelled my appointments?? thats what I didn't understand I'm not at a higher risk then anyone else for a m/c never had one b4
  • Perhaps you do need another DR if they are not treating you well, but the reason they could have canceled your appt is because, after seeing your hcg numbers, it could be that it's just too early to see anything on an ultrasound. My RE wanted me to have several rounds of bloodwork done so he could wait until they were high enough to see something on an ultrasound. He did not schedule my first appt until the numbers got to where he wanted them. However, your DR should have explained this to you if this is why they canceled your appt!

  • The funny thing is it wasn't even an u/s appointment it was the consult for information and yearly pap. So on Monday i'm going to call another office to see what they say

  • If they feel there is a possibility of m/c most dr. office will cancel the initial visit redo your bloodwork and then schedule your visit again if needed.  They may have seen something in your numbers that they are not comfortable bringing you in just yet!

  • I would call the office on Monday and ask for clarification as to why they canceled your appointments when things seem to be improving. If you aren't happy with their answer I would look for a new doctor.

  • When I had an early miscarriage my numbers rose and my doctor said that was normal. I had to go in for bloodwork until they got back to 0, but from the time I started bleeding to the very next visit they actually rose. I would still find a new doc if you don't like the way they are working with you.

Exactly this.  Did they tell you what your numbers were?  Ideally they should be doubling every 48 hours, some Dr's are comfortable with up to a 72 hour doubling time.  With my m/c my numbers were definitely rising but they weren't doubling every 48 hours. They continued doing blood draws to see if there was any improvement.

  • I think if you are uncomfortable than you should look for a different ob, however to me that sounds pretty normal to cancel an appt and repeat to make sure your pregnancy is still increasing. Also my doctor would not do a physicalwhdn i was spotting. I say call back and ask some more info.

  • I think that is a bunch of BS, and if anything they should have kept that appointment for you all that much more.

I would find a new office.
