1st Trimester

I am so nervous!

It's not the pregnancy complications as much this time around (although I get horrible morning sickness), but I'm nervous about after my next child is born.  I'm worried about giving my next child and my DD the attention they both need and deserve.  I'm especially concerned about bedtime, which was the hardest for me with DD.  Any advice from mothers who have at least two children?

Re: I am so nervous!

  • My sister has great, happy boys, and she makes sure to include her oldest in taking care of the youngest. Her oldest then feels included, and not neglected, and proud to have such responsibility, (even if the responsibility is something as easy as helping Mamma make sure the baby is sleeping okay.) Maybe have DD help you put baby to sleep, help you give baby a bath, help you feed baby by holding the baby food jar....

  • I was very nervous about this when my second was born, and I really struggled with it when I had my third.  You will learn to adjust.  Each of my kids was totally enamored by their new baby sibling and it made it easy to include them in things we did.  I had them help me with diaper changes, etc.  I used the time when I nursed the baby to read to the older one, and was sure to spend one on one time with the older one when the newborn napped.

  • I just want you to know, I have the same concern about the attention thing with my DS. You're not alone!!

If you knew how lonely my life has been And how long I've been so alone And if you knew how I wanted someone to come along And change my life the way you've done
