Re: name just found on DH's family tree...

  • This would be his great, great grandmother, so she was born in the late 1800's in Nebraska/South Dakota.

I'm LOVING ancestry.com. (no this is not an advertisement, lol). I learned that my father's family has been living in the city of Chicago for six generations, how cool is that? Other names I've found:

    Martha

    Hattie

    Ernest

Maggie and Margaret (my own name)

    Grace

    Allien (who picked that spelling)

    Isabelle

    Alice

    Vanna

    So much fun!

  • Thumbs down for me. Fern is my grandma's name and she drives me NUTS. Maybe without that association I would like it better. I do like the Ferne spelling.

  • I did the free trial on ancestry.com last year and found some really cool names. I honestly don't remember a lot of the more interesting ones now though.

ETA: I just logged into my tree. The crazy names were Bezaleel, and Burleigh (males) and Luella (Female.)

The classic names I loved are Margaret, Harriet, Eliza, Cora, Josephine, Louise, Scott, Charles, Alexander, Elaine...

  • Love, love, love it.  Fern(e) is a gorgeous name that always reminds me of the little girl from Charlotte's Web.  Use it!  :)
