Pee explosions every night?

My 2 week old daughter has giant pee explosions every night, multiple times a night. We are only using AIOs because I can't stand the thought of more tiny baby accessories to sort through and categorize. We've had the explosions in bumgenius newborn, swaddlebees newborn, kissas, and tiny fits.

I'm willing to contemplate something other than an AIO if it will stop her from soaking her bassinet nightly.. but only if it's totally easy and simple. Nothing that needs to be shaped or folded or fastened with little accessories... ack. I have heard that wool covers are good but that might be too hot for summer? I know nothing!

  • You probably need some more absorbency of some sort.  I'm not sure of the best way to do that with a NB AIO--possibly a NB prefold trifolded into it (folded like a letter...not hard) or a hemp insert of some kind.

  • Are the diapers saturated? If so, she needs something more absorbant or to be changed more often. If they are not saturated, it is probably a fit issue, or repelling. If your diapers are new, I'd say it's probably not repelling. Do you have any newborn fitteds? Those are probably the most absorbant, when used with a wool cover. Which, actually, are not too hot for summer because it is a breathable fiber. Try some upcycled wool (I have some from etsy) to see if it works for you!

  • I'm new to this too, but my daughter is also a heavy wetter on occasion.  Like saturated diapers heavy.  I am using the kissaluv hemp fitteds with hemp liners, and a separate cover - thirsties or bummis are what I have.  I also have the thirsty fitteds, and we haven't had any kind of leaks or anything.

The one time we had a tiny leak was because I didn't do a kissaluv up tight enough, there was too much space in the leg hole.

  • This happened when my girls outgrew the absorbency of their NB AIOs. My rec: Thirsties Fab Fitteds, hemp doublers, Flip covers. Worked great for us. You could do a wool cover instead of the Flip, but those are a lot more maintenance.

  • mine outgrew the absorbancy of the BGxs at about 5-6 weeks. I started adding in layers- like a cloth wipe or two. That helped them last a little longer. At some point they were just not absorbant enough anymore and I made the switch to regular AIO's. The Grovia AIO fit her the best when she was still really tiny.

  • I  would suggest a newborn fitted and some sort of cover. I prefer wool since it's so breathable, but a PUL cover would work well too. My DD is perfectly comfortable in even the hottest nights in her fitted and wool. It's very breathable, and keeps her cool.

  • My LO started using Flips with stay dry inserts at 4 weeks and we haven't had a leak yet.
