What are your thoughts on crib bumpers and the ban?

After reading some facts on what is happening with the ban on crib bumpers I would love to know your feelings....

Several months after the American Academy of Pediatrics called for parents to discontinue use of crib bumpers because of the risk of death for babies, Maryland is poised to become the first state to ban their sale.

?The safety and health of infants in Maryland is our first priority,? said Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, head of the state's Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. ?After an extensive, year-long review of the evidence and thoughtful consideration of public comment, we agree with our expert health advisors that baby bumper pads pose unreasonable risks to infants.?

The Maryland Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics has thrown its support behind the measure which, if adopted, could start as early as next June.

Use of bumper pads would not be regulated, just the sale of them and retailers would have nine months to get on board with the plan.

Now, how do you feel about the use of crib bumpers? In the end even if they are banned they will still be out there and able to be used by parents.

What if there was a safer option out there and that option was excluded from the ban but still provided all of the things that parents love about the traditional crib bumper? I have found that the Wonder bumpers are the answer to all of the above questions. I know a lot of parents out there are like me, we don't like others telling us what we can and can not do. We like options. I myself do not like naked cribs. I know I would not like to sleep in what felt and looked like a cage. I just want everyone to be aware of what is going on and that there are options out there.
