1st Trimester

seat belts?

I've been so nauseated these last few weeks, I can't stand anything tight around my stomach, it's just too sore and icky.

As I get bigger little by little, the seat belt in my car is annoying the mess out of me more and more. It hits just a little too high to be comfortable, so I find myself constantly tugging it so it won't be resting against my stomach. I don't want to wear it wrong because that's just stupid, but I can hardly stand it! Anyone else?

I can't wait until baby grows up above the seat belt line!

  • Ooohhh I am with you on this one! I do the same, keep adding slack. Pretty sure I'll keep wearing mine though. I wonder if this continues to be a problem as the baby gets bigger. Well, hopefully not the nausea part, but I bet it's still pretty uncomfortable.

  • If the seatbelt is worn properly it should rest on your hip bones so that in a crash the impact is taken on your hard bones not your soft organs. I don't see how it can be resting on your stomach. Anyway try pulling it farther down for less aggravation. my problem with the seat belt is the shoulder strap rubbing my breasts. Ugh so annoying!

  • It's resting on my lower abdomen - the position I'm in makes that part parallel to my hipbones... It's just a sensitive area right now. I try pulling it down but it doesn't stay. I read that there is such a thing as a maternity seat belt. I may look into that.

And yeah, the shoulder strap is no picnic either!

PLEASE keep wearing your seatbelt throughout your pregnancy! I know it can be uncomfortable... pull it down as much as possible until it naturally rests below your bump. I believe it was something like 70-80% of pregnant women in car crashes die because they weren't wearing a seatbelt. Yeah it's uncomfotable but you are protecting your life and that of your child. I wore mine every time I was in the car, including when I was in labor at 2 AM and there were no other cars on the road. You never know when a crash will happen and god forbid something happen to you and your LO in a split second.
