I know they are illegal to sell now and not safe but we have such a good relationship going right now I don't want to say anything to her to pi$$ her off.  She will also probably turn him forward facing before a year like she did with my niece. Sad

I'd probably leave the crib issue alone.  Idk if that's right or not, but it was my first instinct.

As for turning, does she know about the recs?  I would have been turning Audrey this week (meets 20 pounds and 1 year law) if it weren't for TB, followed by my own research and that video on YouTube cementing that decision further.

Have you shared the info?  The video?  Do you think you could you do it in a "info sharing way" and not a "i'm trying to tell you how to parent" way?

  • Mine: probably pretty lame, but it's all I've got right now.  I don't think I will be purchasing organic WCM for Audrey when we are done with breast milk.  After doing some research on the organic verses regular, I'm just not convinced as I once was.  I talked to my pedi, and he doesn't think it's necessary either. So instead of spending twice as much on organic, we're going with regular.

I'll wait until he's close to a year to say anything. He isn't even born yet. Wink  But I will see what she does and then share something with her at least.  By then C will be 2 and (hopefully) still rear facing so that will open up a dialogue I am sure.

  • I'm also doing regular WCM but I don't think it's flameful at all. Smile

I have another though... I'm pretty sure C just took a drink out of a sippy of milk that was out all night long.  I really need to get better about picking them up!

We just bought our first carton of WCM. I went with Organic because the cost isn't really that different. It's definitely not twice as much... more like $.50 more. I bought the generic store-brand. I don't think we'll always do organic, but for right now the cost difference isn't a big deal to me.

My (lame) FFFC... Julia had a super messy dirty diaper and she would not stay still. I gave her a wipe to play with and she started sucking on it. I knew that I should take it away, but I let her continue to keep the wipe in her mouth until I was done.

Yeah... that was lame. I need to think of something better!

Maybe where you are the price is only a difference of $0.50 but I also have seen organic milk that is twice the price of the non organic

Where are you buying milk?  At all 3 grocery stores I frequent (Target, Tom Thumb, and Kroger), organic is approximately twice as much.  I'm a major price checker.  I've been buying organic for years because it last longer and I'm the only one who drinks it. So it was worth it.  At my stores, a half gallon of store-brand organic is about the price (maybe $0.50 less) of a gallon of regular WCM.

ETA: If you tell me Walmart, it won't change my mind.  I HATE Walmart with a passion and try to go there as little as possible.  I maybe make it there a handful of times per year.

I was thinking the same thing, i want to buy my organic milk where you live!  At target, their brand of organic milk (which is .50 cheaper than Horizon) is $3.99 for a half gallon.  a full GALLON of regular milk is, I think around $3.49.  so .50 cheaper for twice as much milk!

Nope don't worry, you're not missing anything at walmart.  that's where I do the vast majority of my shopping, but even their organic is just about in line with the price at Target, maybe just a bit less.  The one thing I like about walmart's organic selection is that they sell full gallons of organic (we go through milk like crazy in our house) so you do save a bit of money there, since you're buying more.

    Ha! Wal-mart.

I really don't think it's a big deal if you don't buy organic. I don't think we always will. I'm fully aware that almost everything else that DD eats isn't organic. Actually, if we are out and about and 2% milk is all that's available, I'm not opposed to giving her that.

ETA- I'm not a huge price checker, and I don't have a very good memory. I don't think that the organic WCM at wal-mart was that much more expensive than the regular WCM. Maybe I'm wrong. I will double-check next time I go and get back to you guys!

  • Macy's hemoglobin was checked at her 9 month appt, and it was slightly low, so I was told to give her an iron supplement.  I bought Poly-vi-sol thinking that it had iron in it.  At her 1-year appt, our new pedi said as long as I was giving her the supplement along with iron-rich foods, he would rather just wait to re-check her levels at the 18 month appt.  A few days later, I was randomly looking at the Poly-vi-sol bottle and was shocked to see that there was NO iron in it.  I am a complete moron and didn't realize there's Poly-vi-sol and Poly-vi-sol WITH IRON.  So for over 3 months, she hasn't even been getting an iron supplement.  I already felt guilty because I was slacking on giving it to her every day, but now I feel even more guilty that she never got it in the first place!!  I didn't even tell DH.  I feel SOOO stupid for not reading the bottle more closely in the first place :/

  • I don't know how flameable this is but, DH and I just moved to Utah. We lived her for a little bit a couple of years ago for school and just moved back from California because DH got a job offer. We haven't found a place yet so we are staying with his friend and his wife and they also have a little girl she's about 9 months.

They are super crazy about leaving their LO's sight. We'll all be downstairs watching tv and Alexis will be awake and playing, but their LO will fall asleep and they turn down the tv and have to be absolutely quiet and if Alexis makes any noise they look at us like we need to shut her up because their baby is sleeping. I know we are a guest in their home, even though we do pay a third of their rent to stay here, but it drives me nuts that they don't take their LO upstairs and put her to bed and bring down the baby monitor. They are just crazy about her being out of their sight anywhere in the house, and it's not because something has happened to make them that way. I don't have a problem turning the baby monitor on and leaving Alexis to sleep or play if she's fed and happy. I know this isn't their parenting style but it is very annoying.

Also, it's very awkward and makes me feel bad for DH's friend because the wife is always making him do everything and if she is ever doing something with LO she always has him be there like she can't do it alone. Like if she's putting her to bed or needs to be fed they both have to be there together doing it. She even told me that they always need to be doing things together for LO. Maybe it's just me but if DH is busy doing something for me or is tired and I'm doing nothing I'm not going yell it him to go make a bottle for LO. (The other day DH's friend was putting a treadmill together for his wife that they just bought, and she had been sleeping with the baby and the baby woke up crying and she yelled at her husband to make a bottle when he's busy putting that together for her and she is essentially doing nothing).

  • Our FFFC is slacking in comparison to the Parenting Board, LOL. The booger talk is making my stomach feel queasy though.

My lame confession: I purposely pressed the close elevator button on a woman walking too slow yesterday. She works in my building and never responds when I say "hi" or smile. Screw her - CLOSE!!

I don't know how flameful this is but SIL is using her same drop side kid for my new nephew that she used for her first (and was also used on MH and his brother).

I know they are illegal to sell now and not safe but we have such a good relationship going right now I don't want to say anything to her to pi$$ her off.  She will also probably turn him forward facing before a year like she did with my niece. Sad

My MIL purchased a dropped side crib for her house (used from a garage sale) when DH's nephew was born. SIL/BIL used it without question. I am not sure whether or not they were aware of the issue. During my pregnancy, I learned that they were no longer manufactured and passed the word onto MIL (along with an article I found online regarding their safety). It's been over a year now and that same crib is still in her house. I've never brought it up again, though. I just bring my pack n play over there and I just ignore the crib that she's moved into DH's old room. I guess she's choosing to ignore the current recommendations even after I made her aware of them, but DD is NOT going in that crib.

Yeah this is kind of where I'm at with it.  I don't think it's a huge issue except for it might be awkward when I bring my pack n play over there instead of letting C sleep in their crib (new baby will be in the parents room for the first 3-4 months). Oh well.

I went out and bought the one with iron the day I noticed the other one.  She doesn't seem to mind it.  I mix the vitamin with a teeny bit of baby food fruit, then I take a teeny bit of the mixture on a spoon and squirt more fruit puree over it.  She takes the whole dose down in about 3-4 bites.  She doesn't seem to notice it's there... although I don't know how, because it's definitely nasty!

  • Maya and I are out in the yard right now.  I brought a bunch of toys out here so she would be entertained and I could bump.  Well, her toys must be old news b/c she found a big box of BBQ matches and got a huge smile on her  face when she shook them.  The flameful part- I looked around to see if any of my neighbors are outside- and after seeing that we're the only ones outside- I'm letting her play with them.  She isn't opening the box- just walking around shaking it.  But I am letting my kid play with matches so I can bump...

  • On Wednesday I was sick and feeling like h3ll. LO is still going through jet lag and woke up at 5am. I put him in his baby jail with some toys and fell back asleep next to him on the couch. Later in the day, I watched an episode of Army Wives with LO playing next to me. Poor kid did not get much attention that day.
