Babies: 3 - 6 Months

What do I need for 3-6 months?

Hi! I am popping over to ask you - what do I need for the ages of 3 to 6 months? I am sure I will use a lot of the stuff I am currently using but what will I need during this stage? Probably some stuff has to do with starting solids at 6 months right? I have a gift card to use. Thanks so much!

  • If you don't have one already, a video monitor.
  • Loading the player...
  • If you didn't have them before, tons of bibs! DD is drooling through 2 a day. Also, she is enjoying her play mat, bouncy chair and swing more, so basically you'll want something baby can entertain his or herself with.

  • At 4 months, we put DD in her excersaucer and I could not believe how much fun she had in it!  She absolutely loves it still.  So, an excersaucer if you don't have one yet.

This. And/or a jolly jumper. I don't have one (they take up a lot of room) but I always hear great things about them and how much babies love them! Also a high chair! I don't have one of those yet either but I have to get one soon. DS HAS to be with us at the table during dinner and right now I am just holding him on my lap. Do you know how hard it is to cut meat with a baby on your lap?!??!

Plus, depending on when you are going to start solids, you are going to need baby dishes! There are TONS of stuff you can use your gift card on!

  • Teething toys, grasping toys, bibs, bowls, spoons, sippy cup (we're practicing now), and we've started loving our mesh baby feeder too.  A Jumperoo/exersaucer or even a walker (DS can push himself backwards), bumbo.  If you want to pick up a toy or two, DS loves his Fisher Price Kick n  Play piano and  the Roll Arounds with the gumball machine.

  • DD1 loves the exersaucer and DD2 loves the jumperoo.  They also won't eat without some sort of distraction, so a small toy like a rattle or one that lights up that you can hold while feeding them would be helpful if your LO has the same issue.  Bibs are a must, but they don't like teethers, they just lick everything under the sun and chew on shirts, burp cloths, or the cloth part of the jumperoo/exersaucer.  Mine also aren't big on toys - they'd much rather be in the jumperoo/exersaucer or be on one of our laps playing and singing songs or walking around with us.

  • Jumperoo, teething toys (Sophie is a favorite), other interesting toys to grab and figure out, play mat, we're practicing with water in a sippy cup this month, and if you weren't using one before, DD loves to use her Boppy to help her sit up since she's still a little wobbly. If you're going to start solids, spoons, bowls, etc.

  • Agree with the sitting-up assists; DD is 5 months and can sit up (if I put her in a seated position) pretty well just since the last week or so, but has LOVED being in a seated position for a while now, either on our laps or in her boppy.

3-6 months is also when she started really taking an interest in toys - small stuffed animals and anything that makes noise (as well as our car keys, our cell phones, beer bottles Embarrassed basically anything WE are holding, she wants to hold), so now's the time to get those things out and to wash them, because they will go straight in the mouth.

She is also more mobile every day - right now just rolling and sort of scooting on her tummy, but I'll bet we have a crawler by 6 months, so I will be investing in baby-proofing items very soon!
