Hey All,
I've got a 5 month old, and am debating going for 2u2. My sister and I are 17 mo apart, and I would love that for my DS.
Right now I'm trying to think through all of the logistics. We live in an apartment in the downtown area of our city, and while it's a decent size 2 bdrm, having two little ones in an apartment might be a lot, especially since they would have to share a small bedroom. Anyone else have something similar?
Re: 2 Under Two in an apartment?
We are actually worse off- we have a 13 month and a baby due in November and live in a 1 bedroom.
We are considering buying a high-end sofa bed and having the bedroom be for the babies. The hardest part is keeping our stuff out of the baby's way. He gets into everything. With such space issues, it is practically impossible to babyproof. One of us is minding him all the time.
It is exhausting, but we are trying to save and make some career decisions before considering a house. We also didn't want to wait too long before having no. 2 because I am 35 this year. I'm guessing unless DH finds a job out of the area, we will stay where we are for possibly up to 2 more years.
if we weren't moving in a couple of months, we'd have 2u2 in an apt. i would be more than fine with the space, and i've always wanted our kids to share bedrooms. right now we want our own parking, a backyard, those kind of house-y things.
but fwiw, my cousin had 4 kids under 6 in a 2BR apt and it worked fine. they had three kids in one room and the baby in their room. it was cozy but totally worked.
Not in an apartment, but a small house. My kids share a room because to put them in separate bedrooms means moving them to a different floor of our house. It works fine-so well we're trying to have another.
I would think it would be easier to have 2u2 than with a larger gap. They will play with the same toys.
We are about to have 3u18mos in a 2 bedroom apartment. I think the previous poster mentioned spending more time outside is one thing that we already do.
Our family room is completely safe for kids and it's gated so it's a safe place for my 14 month old. When the twins arrive, they will spend most of their time in our dining room. Our house isn't pretty- it's very baby and we are just creative with space.
It can totally be done. Good luck!
