WWYD? (constant vomiting)

I have been throwing up every 15-20 minutes for the last four hours, without a break. DH is working the night shift tonight, so he's not available. I'm worried about dehydration. Would you just wait it out to see if it gets better? I feel silly going to the ER or UC for just "morning sickness", but I feel like this is dragging out for a really long time, and it's making me nervous.

  • They won't do anything for you until you haven't passed water in 8 hours - then you would go into the hospital to get an IV. Drink a tablespoon of water every 15minutes to keep something in. I had the flu last pregnancy at 36 weeks. HORRIBLE MISERY!! I hope you feel better asap - call your doctor just to keep them updated on you, in case you do end up having to go in. Sorry you feel so icky : (

  • Yikes. I was told to go in if I felt light headed or dizzy or, like the above mentioned, if I stopped urinating.

Eventually I did have to go for fluids. It was pretty obvious. I couldn't hold down any fluids for 24 hours and had been vomiting for 18 hours. I was dizzy, weak, could barely stand. My labs in the ED showed BAD dehydration. Don't wait that long.

At the very least, call your OB. You can always call the after hours line if you can't get it under control soon.

I'm so sorry. It's miserable. At 9 weeks, I am still struggling with hyperemesis. I hope you are able to hold something down soon.

  • If you aren't holding down fluids go to the ER. They'll give you IV and you'll feel a million times better. I got super dehydrated when I was pregnant with DS and started having horrible contractions in my 2nd tri, it was scary, but after the first of 4 IV's I felt a million times better. GL and feel better!

  • Thank you guys so much for the advice! The Dr on call finally called back. If it doesn't subside in the next 2 hrs, DH is going to come home from work and take me into the ER to get some fluids.
