I'm 36 and pregnant with my 3rd. Since I'm over 35, my ob/gyn requires that I started going to weekly appointments at week 32, in which I have a nonstress test every week and an office visit. Luckily we have great insurance that covers it and I'm not complaining about having the extra peace of mind, but just curious if any other over 35 and pregnant moms' ob/gyn requires this?

Yes, but only because I had GD with my last one & had to take medication to help control my sugars - not due to age. Honestly, I don't know that I'd put up with it for any reason other than a bonafide medical issue - it took a lot of time out of my week (I had to do it 2x) and was a huge disruption. I'm working really hard to keep my sugars low this time so I don't have to do it again.
thanks for all your input! I don't have any medical issues and didn't with my other 2 either, so I'm not quite sure why my dr requires it other than saying I'm higher risk since over 35. I have a friend that goes to the same dr as me, shes 35 and was also wondering why the weekly nst starting at week 32, Because she doesn't have insurance to cover it and we were just wondering if necessary if no medical issues.
It must be the dr. I'm 38 at 36 weeks haven't had a NST and my last appt. which was at 31 weeks, my dr...said I'll see you in a month. My next appt is next week so at 37 weeks I'll be starting the once a week sessions. It's a super lax office...and even with the ankle and hand swelling...they have not shown urgency or worry about much. Also this is my 1st.
Your friend who doesn't have the insurance. Might just want to say NO.
I was just over 40 when I had my daughter this past fall and I did the tests after 32 weeks- I did have fibroids - they were never an issue, but the doctor insisted that go in most part because my doctor said that we have greater risks of late term loss than our younger counterparts and that in most cases its not needed, but that if the baby is not hitting its marks that they can make a decision as to whether or not it makes sense to take the baby early and work on the issues on the outside.
Luckily, we had no problems and it was A LOT- I joked that I should be allowed to get mail and phone calls there- especially in late pregnancy when I was seeing my reg OB once a week as well. I think its a scare tactic and most likely not necessary, but as I am FTM, I was too scared to push back. Thankfully, my insurance company agreed with the need.
With my last roegnancy I had borderline high BP, and GD, so I had NST's 2x a week towards the end. I was 32. It was kind of a pain, but I rather enjoyed sitting and listening to the baby's HB, and seeing all the kicks and what not on the monitor. I'm assuming I'll be doing it again this time, but I don't know since I'm with a different practice.
NST and BPP weekly starting @ 32 weeks. I have what seems to be really crappy placenta issues so that is the reason for mine.
Luckily I will start leave right around the same time b/c the appts are on Tuesday's and Friday's and the office/hospital is 45 minutes from my house and over an hour from work. It would be rough getting all that done.
