Hiccups in Utero - tied to anything post birth?

My baby gets the hiccups A LOT...several times a day.  Does anyone know if there is any correlation to babies who get the hiccups a lot in utero, with anything in real life? Are they more likely to be gassy? Or fussy?  Restless sleepers?

Just curious!

  • I of course am not a doctor, but I've been told that hiccups happen because they're building strength in their diaphragm... so it makes sense to me that getting hiccups often would be a good sign that their lungs are developing well.

  • The only thing I've heard is that babies who hiccup a lot inside also do so once they're born.

  • DS hiccuped a ton in utero and did so for a while outside too. He was very gassy but I had a fast letdown while nursing too and that was the cause I Think.

DD only did a little in utero and barely hiccuped after she was born. She also had trouble clearing the gunk when she was born. Who knows.

Same.. it also helps develop and strengthen the sucking/swallowing reflex babies need for nursing/feeding.
