Swing...

So far DD has hated the swing... Screams errupt within 3 minutes of putting her in.

Well, today I put her in -- happy and alert and within 5 min she was dead asleep. I've let it go... 1.5 hours. Should I take her out or just let her swing? I have no idea... I don't really want her to become dependent on it to where she needs to be in it to sleep you know? She usually falls asleep in her crib at night after some coaxing... I really do not want to take a step back. Plus, is it bad to have them in that thing for such a long period of time?

Sounds like a silly question but I was just wondering.

Re: Swing...

  • I'd let her sleep. Seeping babies are awesome.

be glad she sleeps somewhere other than you!

You can always watch for signs she's getting sleepy and move her while she's still alert but tired to wherever you do nt her to sleep, but it could backfire too. If you move her while she's sleeping. Shell be more likely to wake up upset.

  • I'd let her sleep.  DD1 sometimes would nap for crazy 4-5 hour stretches in her car seat after we'd been out and about.  It was wonderful.  She still slept in her crib at night and for her more regular napping, so I think her sleep associations still remained with her usual arrangement.

  • DS naps in his swing for 3 hours every day. If I try to pick him up and move him into his crib, he's wide awake. He has no problem sleeping at night in his his PnP. I say let her sleep!

  • Once DD falls asleep in her swing I'll turn it off, but leave her in there.

I put DD in the swing when I want to get a few things done.  She sleeps in there sometimes up to 2-3 hrs.  She loves it.  So I say it is fine and at least you know she is safe in there while you have a little quiet time.

  • Let her sleep! My LO isn't too fond of her swing either....You all are SO lucky that your babies nap for so long during the day. The longest nap DD has ever taken was 50 minutes and that was one time. Other than that, she takes a few 20 to 30 minutes nap during the day, and that is it. She sleeps pretty well at night though so I guess I'll count my blessings there. We're about to make the transition from sleeping in the RNP beside our bed to sleeping in the crib in her room.
