Pregnant after 35

40 and First Time PG

Hey all,

I found out I was PG last Friday. Complete shock! After failed IVF and being told that once I hit 34 the odds of me having kids were pretty much zero, I had resigned myself to the fact that I would never be PG.

I am between 5 and 6 weeks and have my first u/s and dr's appointment tomorrow.  The doctor did do two HCG tests which looked good (5000 on Friday and 11,000 on Monday).

I am trying to enjoy the fact that I am PG but I am so incredibly worried that we will find out it was a bad egg or is ectopic. I know I should be hoping to be lucky enough to catch a heartbeat but here are my hopes for the u/s:

1. The gestational sac is in the uterous,

2. everything looks normal

I am going to be a complete wreck until my appointment!

  • Congrats!!!!  I know the worry never stops.  Im pregnant with my 1st child at 41yrs old through IVF.  It will feel like the try outs for the olympics going through every hurdle holding your breath while trying to get over the shock that you really are pregnant but try and enjoy and Im wishing you great success at your next dr. appt.

  • Congrats! I have heard of so many stories of Dr.'s telling women of little chance of being pg. Yet another example of proving them wrong! Good luck and keep thinking good thoughts!

  • I am pregnant for the first time at 39 and was so worried before my first appointment too! Congratulations on your pregnancy and best wishes for your appointment and the months ahead. If anything, I'd say my pregnancy has really taught me how to *manage* my worrying. Because whatever's going to happen is going to happen and all we can do is be aware of our bodies and try to take care of our pregnancies the best we can! Sending great thoughts your way!

  • Also a first timer at 38.  Congrats and Good Luck!
  • I am a first timer at 39 and I have come to believe having kids at our age is going to be the new normal. I think there is too much fear put into us because in the past there weren't as many women having babies at our age. Good luck with your pregnancy! :D
  • Welcome!  What an amazing surprise for your 40th year!!  Yeah, you'll be a wreck, but this board is a good place to vent :).
