1st Trimester

Intro & Question about abdominal discomfort

Hello! This is my first pregnancy and I think I'm only about 4 weeks along. I have 1st Dr.'s appointment scheduled for early July.

I'm wondering if lower abdominal pain is OK? It's not cramping--I had that a lot of that early on. It's just feels like pressure and yesterday it even felt like heartburn but it was to low down. The only other thing I've noticed is I haven't been hungry like usual. I'll eat, but yesterday I couldn't finish my breakfast and didn't eat lunch until 2 because I wasn't getting my usual stomach growl. It seems to get better after I pee at night. Is it possibly constipation? I have some bowl movements, but not a lot. Or have I been holding my pee in too long at night? Sorry if this is TMI!

Re: Intro & Question about abdominal discomfort

  • I have been having the lower pain and pressure as well. It is just your body and uterus stretching. These are changing down there getting ready for a growing baby.  As for the  constipation, that is normal as well. Your hormones that are changing are loosening up your muscles for baby, however they also loosen up other muscles such as your digestive tract. Due to this it takes longer for you to digest your food, which could be why you are not feeling as hungry as soon as you have in the past.  This slow digestion is good for the baby because it makes the nutrients last longer and you and your baby get more out of them! Obviously if you are concerned you should ask your doctor. This is also my first pregnancy and that is all the info I have figured out through research. Good luck to you!! :)

  • I felt a lot of that when I was at 4-5 weeks, shortly after I found out (well, before, and then confirmed my BFP). I had a lot of bloating that contributed to that, but now at 7 weeks it has subsided some. I will have occasional light cramping but nothing major. Make sure you're taking your prenatals, and add some fiber to your diet -- if you can't get it in food form, use Benefiber or something of the like that you can just mix in. That will help alleviate much of the problem! Feel better!
  • Same problems here too!  Not major cramping but always feeling uncomfortable. Sometimes it seems like cramps other times gas pains. Ugh the bloating...I'm glad to hear that it will ease up.

Also, I am now waking up every night having to pee. My husband asked me the other morning if that was me peeing or if the toilet was running b/c it went on for so long! lol

  • I think it sounds normal - what you're describing.  My doctor said a good rule of thumb is any pain that lasts less than an hour is okay and anything more than an hour give a call.
