For those whose LO's STTN...

How much do they nap during the day?

Do you make a concerted effort to keep them awake during the day?

How much do they weigh?

FF or BF?

Thank you :)

Re: For those whose LO's STTN...

  • DD just had her first stretch of sleeping 6 hours last night from 9pm to 320am, so maybe this is sleeping through the night.

She still naps a lot during the day.  Her naps are 2-3 hours long. She's only awake for about 20 minutes after I nurse her.  She's more awake in the evenings, from about 5 to 9pm, and also wants to eat more at that time too. No I don't make a concerted effort to keep her awake.

She weighs about 10 lbs, 4 weeks old today!  And she's BF.

And we just started CD's yesterday... so far so good, although DH did put butt paste on her by accident.  Oh well, just have to strip my first load I guess.

  • At 4 weeks-6 weeks? My first STTN at 13 months. I'm hoping this one will be different, but who knows. The downside to a baby that starts sleeping well at 6 weeks is that when 4 months hits they'll likely start sleeping like crap again.

  • I've done the exact same things with this child as I did with DS1... and DS1 was NEVER this great a sleeper.  A lot of it is just Baby's wiring/personality.  DS1 was high needs (still is).  DS2 is really laid back though.

  • My girl (5 weeks old) has slept 6 hours most nights since day one. Naps a lot the first half of the day then gets fussy in the afternoon. I have noticed her getting more alert during waking hours the past few days.

  • DD will give me a good 6-6.5 hour stretch now. And so far we don't have a nap schedule. It's hit and miss. But night time is always the same.  She seems to have two really long naps one in the am and one in the pm.  Then some random little ones.

But then if I ahve a day where I am out driving all day she will sleep almost the whole day. And those days she still sleeps the same schedule at night.

    And she is EBF.

  • we just got 3 nights of 8 hours...YAY...but last night she went back to 4-5 hours...

she sleeps a ton during the day but only because i am in and out of the car trucking my older daughter places..and the baby falls asleep in the car ....

he most awake time is in the evening...maybe 6:30-8:30, then she goes to bed...

when she is up during the day though, it's for like an hour-an hour and half tops...the only way she naps well is if she is sleeping on me or when i wear her...

i don't think her daytime sleep has anything to do with her night time sleep, since she sleeps pretty decent at night after sleeping the day away...

she was 2 months yesterday and weights 10.5 lbs

  • Last night she was up every half hour after I put her back down. Lets just say I'm a little exhausted today...

This for me too. And feeding every hour today. She usually feeds for 45 minutes to an hour so that means that I've been glued to the recliner all day and EXHAUSTED. Why does sleep deprivation make hormones so much worse??

  • How much do they nap during the day? 5-6 hours

Do you make a concerted effort to keep them awake during the day? No, I let her sleep as she pleases.  I give her an extra 2 oz of previously pumped breast milk in the evening so that she gets really full before bedtime.  She sleeps a 6-7 hour stretch at night now, from around 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

How much do they weigh? 8 lbs, 4 oz (birth weight 7lbs, 5 oz)

  • Sleeps 7 hours, eats, then another 4 hours at night.  Naps on and off most days, probably awake for around 5-8 hours throughout the day.  I do not try to keep him up unless he has literally slept all day, then I try to keep him up a bit before bedtime.  He weighs about 11.5 pounds at 6.5 weeks and is EBF.

  • DD has STTN (5-7 hours) since she was 2 weeks and we were cleared by our pediatrician to give it a try.  Currently she's 10lbs 8oz.  We're EBF, although the first couple of weeks we supplemented with formula while my supply got going.

Our day is in 3 hour shifts - she eats, poops, gets changed, and stays up a bit, then falls back asleep.  I'd say she sleeps 2 out of every 3 hours, give or take.  I only try to keep her up if she's been asleep literally the whole day, usually for an hour and a half before the last feeding of the night.  I've noticed that if she's been up too much during the day, she gets overstimulated and then it's even harder to put her down.

  • DS will sleep about 5-7 hours a night now. We don't try to keep him awake during the day, but I have noticed he stays awake a lot now. He is about 10 lbs, and exclusively breastfed.

  • My son didn't sleep through the night consistently until he was almost three years old. He still gets up 1-2 times a night about 2x a week. So, I can only PRAY that this baby will be a better sleeper. She slept for 5 hour stretches a few times in her first couple weeks,  but now is up ever 2-3 hours at night. She is almost 12 pounds and EBF. She sleeps a lot during the day, but nurses every 1-2 hours.
