New to The Bump

Just a quick question.

I have a 6 year old daughter who will be 7 when my second baby is born.  My question is, how involved should my daughter be in the doctor appointments.  I really want her to hear the heart beat and see the baby on ultra sound. It's been a VERY long time since I've had a baby and I want my daughter to be just as excited about everything as my husband and I are.  Any thoughts?

Re: Just a quick question.

  • Personally I think that 7 is old enough to be involved and it may even help with the adjustment period after the baby comes home.

Just determine to what extent you want her to be involved.   Maybe you can do the appointment on your own and she can come in after to hear the heartbeat or see the ultrasound when it's not an internal one.   Maybe you don't bring her but you have one of those machines at home and she can hear the heartbeat.  Just make sure you involve her in some way that you are all comfortable with.
