1st Trimester

Cause for concern??

This evening when I used the restroom, I experienced kind of a "gush" of brown discharge/dried blood when wiping. Wiped again and got several tiny dark red clot-looking spots...Got very worried, but have not had any such discharge or blood since going to the bathroom 2 more times. Will definitely call the doctor in the morning, but getting a lot of mixed information on internet searches. Anyone else have this? Is this likely the start of a miscarriage? I am 7 weeks tomorrow.

Re: Cause for concern??

  • I don't have any experience with this. I think calling your doctor in the morning is definitely the right choice. For tonight I'd kick back and drink a lot of water (can't hurt!)

FWIW, I've always been told that if the blood's brown and not red you don't need to be concerned. (But I'd definitely still call the doctor in the morning)

Normal brown blood is old blood so typically not reason to be concerned. Try not to stress it!

  • I had bright red on Friday and tried my hardest not to freak out (but how could you NOT?) Called my doc, he said it was fine as long as it stopped.  I went in on Mon and had a sono and baby's heart was beating away.  So don't stress!  It could be from anything, really.

  • Thanks ladies - going in to see the doctor at 10am today. They didn't sound super concerned, but want to check it out before the weekend!
  • Alright, here's the update --

Was at the doctor from 10-12, where I received a full exam and internal sonogram.  No obvious reason for bleeding, though it was suggested that we avoid sex until there has been some monitoring (so after my next visit on the 25th) - poor DH. Baby's heartbeat was present (yay!!!!) albeit a bit on the slow side. Still within the normal range (100-180 bpm) at 108, but being that it is the first day of week 7, we're hopeful that it will increase. Praying for the strengthening of the heartbeat, but other than that, things checked out. Thanks again all!

  • I had the exact same thing as you at 8 weeks. I freaked out, went to the dr, and had a u/s. Everything was just fine. They aren't sure what caused it. They did bloodwork and discovered I'm RH neg, so that could be it. We'll never know! Don't worry too much (I know, it's so hard). Call tomorrow. Hopefully they'll have you come in soon and ease your fears.

Good news! Sorry I didn't scroll all the way down at first to see that there was an update. I just read that 90-110 bpm is normal for 6-7 weeks, so you're good!
