1st Trimester

First Trimester is scary!

So I was not 100% on board to try to have a baby, but I'm going to love it when it comes regardless.

I am having a tough time with nasea and sore boobs though, and my husband just doesn't seem to be able to understand.  "There's no "bump" so nothing's really happening, right?"  How can I convey this rush of hormones and how it's making me act/feel to him?  Any suggestions?

  • I don't think they ever fully understand the hormones. You can use the pages on the bump that tell you what's happening each week and read and show it to him. What does he think happens before the bump gets there? The baby just pops up that big? No matter how far you are, there's still plenty happening.

  • They don't understand because they've never gone through it before.  It's likely he won't understand the hormones/body changes after LO is born as well.  I will say that the second time around husbands seem to be more sympathetic, and that is probably because they know what eventually comes out of you and how much they love s/he.

Exactly. Most men just don't get it. This is my 2nd pregnancy and my husband still gets annoyed when I'm so tired all the time and want to nap. I have to remind him that I'm pregnant and pregnant women need to nap!

  • THIS!!!  Maybe we should print these out and leave them around for our DH's to read!!!!

  • Hi everyone. Well, a complete shock but just went out and purchased a preg tests and it's positive. I turn 40 in December and I have a daughter who turns 15 in July. I was a couple of days late but really that's not un common. So what now? LOL I sounds like a moron!
  • It's hard for some firs-time dads to "get it" during the first tri because they can't see the bump. I bought a copy of The Expectant Father for my DH which does a pretty good job of explaining what's going on and how he can help. It's definitlely helped me!

  • the best way i could deal with this, was to try and put myself in his shoes. imagine if you were the guy and he was the girl going through this, how he might feel about certain things. It really helped me and my husband to BOTH try and understand what it would be like for the other person, and im happy to say that this being our 3rd, we are PRO's at it now, and he's so great to me ( i think after having watched all it takes to go from week 1 to week 40 makes them put it in perspective). Goodl uck

  • It's hard for the men, so they don't really get it.  My DH is more understanding because of his friends' wives who have experienced the same/similar things.
