Stomach Sleeper

When are you supposed to stop sleeping on your stomach? I have a hard time sleeping any other way so i wanted to get a heads up on how long i have to adjust to sleeping other ways

Re: Stomach Sleeper

  • I say you can sleep on your stomach until it's not comfortable anymore.

This, your body will let you know.

I'm already to the point where it doesn't feel comfortable to lay flat on my stomach, but if I lay just a little to the side it's still fine.

I am a tummy/side sleeper as well. With my first I slept that way until my belly got in the way (week 23?). Invest in one of those big pillows, it will help you out a lot. I loved it!

  • You'll know when it's time. lol--you'll lay down and feel like there's a football under your belly :-)

I suggest getting a snoogle for when that time comes..or a big body pillow, You can kinda prop yourself enough that you feel like you're more on your belly :-)

  • I'm a stomach/side sleeper too!!! I'm already getting to the point where it feels funny to lay on my stomach. And I'm only 9 weeks. I'm still doing it at night, but I'm afraid it wont be much longer for me! It's making me sad.. :( lol

  • Butting in to reminisce about how awesome it felt to finally get to sleep on my stomach again after Ds. It was like coming home after a too-long vacation. :) I look forward to that again after this LO is here.

A lot of the info I have read says you should transition to sleeping on your side at week 12.

I'll be honest, as a strict stomach sleeper, it was hard for me to change positions, however, once you are late in your pregnancy, sleeping on your left side allows the most oxygen flow, and is well worth it.

best day of my life. bar none. lol

and I had a cs, so it was forevvvvverrrr.

really though. whenever you're not comfortable. I was a ways into it last time. 24weeks? It all depends on your body. and ditto the body pillow.

This is me too. If I tip my hips to one side or the other it's ok. OP, like PPs have said, your body will let you know when it's not a good idea anymore.

  • I've been told that you just won't be able to sleep on your stomach when it's time! I guess you'll be too uncomfortable so your body will naturally make itself stop. My sister slept on her stomach for a long time & I still find myself on my stomach frequently when I wake up.

I was a stomach sleeper prior to my first pregnancy.  After DS arrived I spent another year and a half not sleeping on my stomach since I was (am) breastfeeding.  I just started trying to sleep on my stomach again recently, and I've found that it's super uncomfortable now.  It hurts my back, and the only way I can do it comfortably is by rolling up a pillow and sticking it under my hips so my back doesn't hollow out. =(
