Cloth Diapering

Question about cloth-diapering

MH and I are not ready to start TTC yet, however, with plenty of pregnant friends I've already started getting informed on this and that.

I've been doing some research and would like someone to clarify how I would layer a CD. We will be using biodegradable/disposable liners (to at least start off with).

So... would it go:

Diaper, then insert, then liner?
- Then throw away (or flush) the liner, wash the insert, and wash the diaper?
Would I need a diaper cover, too?

*Yes, I understand it depends on brands and types of diaper and whatnot, but I'm just trying to get an idea of this all and how to use liners (because as of right now, DH and I don't want to scrape/wash poop off the inserts).

Re: Question about cloth-diapering

  • You can use a liner but IMO they tend to bunch up the longer your LO is wearing them. If LO poops immediately after a new diaper, then the liner is usually effective. If it's 20 mins after, the liner is usually bunched up because she moved around so much. Breastmilk poop is water soluble and you can just dump the diaper into the washer without spraying/ scraping. However, spraying is the most effective way to get rid of poop IMO once they start solids. We use the Bummis liners just because we don't have a sprayer but if we had compatible plumbing, we'd get the sprayer.

And for pocket diapers, you put the inserts into the pocket of the diaper. If the diaper is wet or soiled, you wash everything. No additional diaper cover is needed.

  • Thanks for the quick reply!

So while BF, I would just need pocket diapers & inserts (and wash both), then when we start to introduce foods I can start buying liners?

Also, what did you mean by you don't have compatible plumbing?
