Does anyone have an alternative vaccination schedule. I dont plan on the baby having more than 2 shots at one time and wondering how other Moms have handled this.
While I fully intend to vaccinate and will vaccinate on schedule, I did read the vaccine book by Dr Sears. The book was very informative and did give me several things to think about (like limiting the the number of shots given with aluminum at one time and that different brands of vaccines have different amount of aluminum/other reagents, which I will utilize when immunizing our LO).
He gives an alternative schedule in the book and talks about the pros and cons of each vaccine so you can decide which are the most important and at what age. He also talks about which vaccines can be delayed/skipped, how to space out vaccines ect.. Unfortunately, I borrowed the book from a friend and have already returned it, otherwise I would send you the info, but I bet your local library has it or you could stop off at the bookstore and copy the info you specifically want!! GL!!
Here's our schedule so far. Wedeclined rotovirus, delayed hep A until 2, and hep B until teens...but other than that it stays within the recommended CDC vaccination windows while spreading out the shots, and pairing to minimize aluminum and formaldehyde per visit. I also put the second mmr later because it affected dd#1 more strongly than other shot reactions.
I have always done only one shot at one time and split up any combo shots. I didn't have a schedule I followed, I just trusted my doctor to tell me what my children needed first. For example, when DS2 was born there were some cases of pertussis in the area, so doc made sure we got that shot first. We spaced shots out every two weeks and usually we were caught up by the next appointment. So by 4 months they had all their 2 month shots and we could start the cycle over again.
ETA - we skip rotavirus, chicken pox, flu shots and Hep B.
My baby is on the traditional schedule for Canada and has not had more than 2 shots at once until his 12 month visit (that was 3 shots). He has had several combo shots.
I want as much immunity as possible as soon as possible. I also don't want him to think doctor = pain, so I don't want him in every month for more shots.
