TTC after 35

Ugh!

Thought you girls could totally relate. I was out for my evening walk in my neightborhood...my little form of exercise. I come across this lady w/ her 4 slot stroller and it's full. The cherry on top was that she had a 5th baby strapped to her chest. First thought was that I didn't even know they made strollers that big and my second thought was the usual...I am trying so hard to have just one and it may not happen in the end and here she is w/ 5 all under the age of 5. Why does it have to work out that way? Just feeling sorry for myself. Thanks for listening.

  • Is it wrong to be fantasizing about kicking that woman in the shins?

    I hate her.

And I agree with McIrish-- who the hell wants 5 kids, even if they're not all under 5?!? If I wanted a basketball team, I would have kept my coaching job...

  • I have a friend whose wife is pregnant with their 4th boy (not planned). They've been going to counseling and having serious issues with their marriage for a few years. It's like, why be so irresponsible (and become pregnant with a 4th freakin' kid) when you don't even know if you're going to be married and have a stable family next year?

I can't imagine taking care of 4 kids, especially not 5 (and I actually wouldn't want to)! It really is crazy and unfair how easy it is for some people to repeatedly get pregnant and it is such a struggle to conceive just one for others. I'm still trying to figure out how to stop myself from reacting when I see parents with babies or multiple kids. I don't want my whole world to revolve around whether or not I will ever have kids but so far, dang it, it does.

  • My reaction would be to immediately start plotting ways to steal one because surely, she wouldn't miss one out of five.... Only in my head, of course.

  • Whenever I see a woman with a brood of 5 under 5 I just think, IVF success story. No sane woman would have 5 irish twins in a row. And if she did, my sympathy goes out to her, because she must be a nut job.

Anyway, DH wanted 9. We met when I was 39. It took a very long time to make him understand that we would be blessed and lucky if we are successful even once. Though, if I we had met in our 20s, we'd probably would have had a large family 4 or 5.

When I was in college, I wanted to be the Waltons. And have Nerf furniture, obviously. But then I grew up and realized "What the @%$#& was I thinking?!?" Now that I'm older and wiser, I would like to have 2. Preferably cute, with 10 fingers, 10 toes, etc. But I'm willing to negotiate the number of fingers and toes...

It's amazing how our dreams change when Reality rears Her ugly face, isn't it?

  • Ok so that is just not be fair so I am going to make up a new reality for her-- She was a nanny and had to work for 5 families just to make a buck in this bad economy... She was ready to quit so she put them all in that huge stroller (that she had to save 3 months pay in order to buy) so she could get some fresh air and not rip every hair out of her own head. That's my story and I am sticking to it!
