what type of ergo?

i am thinking of getting an ergo to try, but i saw the different kinds and didn't know which one to pick? any preferences? and would you say they are worth the price? i haven't tried to carry the boys much cause i only have a cheap carrier and it hurts my back! they aren't small boys :)

Re: what type of ergo?

  • I do think ours was worth the price, and I've got a LOT of different carriers. I like being able to put them on my back easily, and the Ergo wins in that dept. We have the Performance Grey and I would say we use it about 4 or 5 times a week. I liked the Performance because it's breathable and we're in Texas, so that was super important. You might also try a Babyhawk Mei Tai. You can MAKE a Mei Tai for close to nothing and they're just like the Ergo, except that they tie.

  • I have the classic and my husband has the sport. They were the styles available from Baby Steals when we bought them. Both of us have been pretty happy with them. We used them a couple of times at the aquarium while on vacation, we've used them while shopping and in the pic below we wore them to go vote a week ago. We're going to a Giants game next month for my birthday and we're planning to wear them then as well. Definitely worth the price, in our opinions. Do you have a babywearing store nearby? Some of them have a lending program where they'll let you borrow one to try out before buying. Good luck deciding!

  • we had to pick the Sport because DH is 6'5 and we needed the extra long one.  Haven't tried it yet.

  • We have the original and we love it. However, since then I've seen the more breathable ones and I would think those would be even better, since admittedly it can get a little hot.

  • we have the classic and the sport...I prefer the classic myself, but it can get hot in the summer - so if you are somewhere hotter than new england, you may want to go with the performance or the sport.

worth every penny.  we still wore the girls to the beach, museums, etc. all last year...I only wish we had gotten them sooner (we got them around 10 months...until then dh wore the bjorn which kind of hurt his back and I used a maya wrap)

  • We have the classic and the sport also. Definitely worth it! If I was doing it over again, I might get the more breathable one, but I think that one has less padding on the shoulder straps so maybe not.
