exercise with fatigue?

I have been very fatigued for the last couple of weeks and can't bring myself to exercise after a day at work!  I'm a teacher and work from 7-3 everyday (i know i will have more time in a few weeks when summer break begins) so i definitely don't have the energy to work out BEFORE school in the morning...  I was doing good taking a few walks here and there, but I can't bring myself to be consistent

Any tips on how you beat your fatigue and got the energy to exercise?

  • not sure how far along you are but this is exactly what I was going through for the whole 1st trimester.  My suggestion is just sieze the moments that you do have energy and take advantage of them!  Try and get enough sleep so that you're not sleep deprived on top of the fatigue.  As soon as you begin to feel better start then and try to be as consistent as possible.  I'm basiclly just telling you what I'm doing.  2nd tri just started for me a couple of days ago and I've already been to the gym 2x.  So I'm just starting from here :)
  • Just saw that you're 7 weeks!  It will hopefully get much easier!  14 weeks is when my energy started to come back :)

  • Agreed.  The first trimester sucks.  I know that there were days when all I could do was come home and lie on the couch and barely had enough energy to brush my teeth before going to bed.  Do what you can.  Right around the second trimester, the energy comes back. With both of my pregnancies, my exercising picked right back up at the beginning of the second trimester.

The only advice I have is to soldier through it and force yourself to exercise, even when you feel exhausted.  I found in my first trimester that I would usually feel better if I exercised - it gave me more energy in the end.  It's just getting over the "I feel too tired to workout" mentality that is the hardest part.

I do have to say, there was one or two times in my first trimester where I fell asleep while stretching on the mat at the gym for a few minutes.

  • I am in the exact same situation as you and I am really beating myself up about it. I am a runner and pre BFP I was running 6 days a week. Always in the evenings after 7:30 at night. It was the only time I could make it work. Now, I will have the best of intentions when I get home from work. I will totally tell myself that I feel fine and I can go for a run. By the time my DS is in bed around 7 I am ready to crawl in right after him. I try to tell myself that it probably isn't a good idea to go running if I am THIS exhausted. And then the guilt sets in.

I feel so much better seeing all the responses where ladies started working out again in second tri. I am going to stay motivated!
