Before I got KU, I would often have a glass of wine with dinner. My OB (and like every woman in Europe) said it would be okay to have one every once in a while. I finally bought a bottle last week, planning on having just half a glass, but it gave me such horrible heartburn that I could only take a few sips before I gave up. I've tried a Chardonay and a Cab Sauvignon and they both burned. Sigh. I guess I won't be drinking anytime soon. But it's totally okay to have a little bit now in then...just don't over do it. If you get drunk, baby gets drunk!
I am not a fan of the N/A beers, I had a couple over memorial day weekend and I decided they just weren't worth the calories. I would rather have a coke or a slushie.
I haven't tried wine, but probably will at some point.
wow, complete different reaction. I personally will indulge in a glass of N/A wine (to PP, Ariel is a brand of pretty good n/a wines), andi was on another mommy site similar to this one today, and this poor woman just asked what kinds of n/a beers were good bc shes going on vaca and would like to have one at nite with all the adults, and ALL these women were like "GASP..HOW COULD YOU? YOU COULD KILL YOUR BABY" i didnt get involved, but then i was curious....was I the only one who thought an n/a now and then was ok (even tho my doc said it was perfectly fine to have an occasional one, i was curious if there was a huge stigma attatched to it)
I would, and did. A cold O'Douls while eating crabs during the summer, or while out at the bar with DH and friends was nice. Plus, I'd peel the label off the O'Douls and freak people out. Later on, in my late 2nd and 3rd tri, I'd have a glass of (GASP) real wine every now and then.
I had a couple of NA beers before going to see my OB, at the appt she told me to limit my intake during the first 12 weeks since they do contain a very small amount of alcohol.
I bought NA merlot and sparkling pinot grigio the brand is Fre. the merlot tasted like grape juice, but the sparkling pinot was really good.

LOL, too funny. I also did w/ my first and second pregnancy (and prob will with this one) had a glass of REAL wine in my 3rd tri ,near the end, once a week.
During my first pregnancy I asked my doctor about NA beers, and he actually laughed and told me just to have a regular beer if I want. While I wasn't comfortable with that early on, I will share this- 11 O'Douls contain the alcohol equivalent of ONE miller lite. That's a lot of O'Douls. It most certainly won't kill your baby. That's just crazy talk.

NA beer yes. Haven't found any NA wine yet but I'm open to trying that. After first tri, I may indulge in the occassional real drink but undecided yet. Last time, I couldn't stomach it even when I tried so that answered that question.
Nothing wrong with an occasional drink. I might have a glass of wine come Thanksgiving. Otherwise, I probably won't imbibe, although I had a sip of beer to try a new microbrew a few weeks ago.
It's a personal choice, but in strict moderation, it's no biggie.
EDT: just realized you were talking about non-alco beers/wine. Yeah, totally no problem in my opinion.
And to anyone who freaked out, remind them that for CENTURIES, all people drank in Europe was wine and ale, and we didn't have generations of fetal-alcohol-syndrome babies crawling around.
I had a NA beer a couple weeks ago to fool family. I don't feel bad having it. I really don't want to tell people yet. It was not my favorite drink but it did the trick!I also am not good at lying about why I am not drinking!
I wouldn't bother - I'm not a big drinker to begin with so I don't miss it. But if you miss the taste of beer/wine - then it might help satisfy the urge.

I've tried the non alchoholic wines before and hated them, and I'm not a huge fan of the n/a beers either-but i don't see anything wrong with them.
I will probably have a glass of wine here or there during this pregnancy, but haven't yet.
