Refrigerated leftovers?

Has anyone heard if eating reheated refrigerated leftovers is safe during pregnancy? How about frozen leftovers? I'm very cautious with leftovers because I've had food poisoning several times in my life and I am not anxious to have it again.

I have two pieces of frozen leftover pizza and some refrigerated barbecue, but I'm unsure if it's a good idea to eat them. I seem to remember reading something somewhere but I can't remember the details.

Re: Refrigerated leftovers?

  • As long as they were put in the fridge/freezer quickly and are reheated to a fairly high temperature, I don't see why you can't eat them. I just had leftover fajitas for lunch.

  • If you usually eat leftovers you shouldn't have a problem.

  • I don't see a problem with it.  I just had 2 pieces of cold leftover pizza for lunch.  I had my first dr appt yesterday and I asked what foods to avoid and he only said fish.  Didn't say anything about leftovers or anything else for that matter.  So I'm just going by what he says...he's been delivering babies for over 30 years.  :)  If you ate leftovers before- I'd keep on eating them.  Course this is just my opinion.

You do know that most types of fish are very healthy for you, especiallyduring pregnancy?  As long as you avoid ahi, shark, and swordfish, and don't overdo it, you can eat fish and shellfish throughout your pregnancy: https://www.fda.gov/food/foodsafety/product-specificinformation/seafood/foodbornepathogenscontaminants/methylmercury/ucm115644.htm

  • How old is it? I don't eat leftovers that are 3 days old. I've never gotten food poisoning.

  • I try to eat leftovers within 2-3 days at the most. And I always am careful to reheat them properly. Since becoming pregnant I also try to avoid reheating in plastic containers---unless they don't contain BPA.

  • I've never had a problem with leftovers. It's important to get them to temperature within 4 hours so if the item is thick just make sure you get it in the fridge quickly. If you're trying to refrigerate/freeze soup (or other large items) make sure to break it into smaller sized portions or even give it an ice bath in a container before saving it because those items specifically have a hard time reaching an internal refrigerated temperature within your safe window. Pizza should be absolutely fine though!
  • I don't see why not!  As long as they haven't been sitting there long.  I wouldn't eat anything sitting there long not pregnant too.
