Food Allergy

Eating out with peanut allergies

Does this get easier?

We are new to the peanut allergy world, and are finding that it is difficult to find a lot of restaurants that don't at least risk cross contamination issues with their foods. I know we are being really neurotic (at least based off the looks people give me). I don't care if we're too neurotic... but do you go anywhere that could risk cross contamination? Any restaurant chains you have found to be friendly towards peanut allergies?

  • There are lots of chains that have allergy menus...red robin, carrabas, olive garden to name a few.  We have had a hard time because DS is alos allergic to eggs and previously soy and dairy.  I would not eat somewhere with DS if there was a chance of cross contamination.  Ask lots of questions and if you are not comfortable do not feed them...always bring food!

A lot of the chain resturants have their menus online so you can research them before you go.

But no, basically, this doesn't get easier. We called a local BBQ place that my family wanted to eat at for my Grandma's birthday. They assured us no peanuts/peanut oil/nothing. We sit down and open the menu and what's on the kids menu: PB&J. We had brought DD extra food just in case so that's what we used. We won't be going back there either.
