1st Trimester

ugh... nausea finally caught up to me... advice please!

so after a great 7 weeks of pregnancy, and thinking that i must be as lucky as my mom was not to get sick, it has finally set in.

i started feeling nauseated yesterday and hoped it would go away today but it didn't.  I haven't thrown up at all, it's just a constant, nagging, nauseous feeling.  I've been forcing myself to eat, but it's tough!

What have you done for nausea that has worked?  I've got the small meals thing down, but what else?

  • Congrats on your pregnancy!

This is my second time dealing with m/s which is actually all day for me. Things that have helped-

eating small meals-granola bars/fruit every couple hours, ginger ale-room temp, avoiding trigger smells like coffee, taking a vitamin B6 supplement-ask your doctor first.

    Good luck!

  • Lemon Ginger herbal tea helps me (I buy Yogi brand, but I'm sure any would work just fine). The ginger is good for the tummy and it helps keep you from getting dehydrated (which makes nausea worse). Good luck!

  • Peppermint tea is great also. I keep crackers and toast handy, as well as fruits for the water content.
  • I know how you feel. I made it 10 BEAUTIFUL weeks w/o any morning sickness and it just made an appearance starting 3 days ago. Peanut butter and crackers have saved me many times. It is filling without upsetting my stomach even more.

  • I always have crackers with me!

  • Lemons help an upset stomach so Lemon water is great!  Plus peppermint is suppose to calm the body as well.

  • I am 7 weeks pregnant also and have had pretty bad m/s for about a week now. There was one day I couldn't even keep fluids down, and at that point I took a combo of unisom and vitamin B6 right before bed. It didn't work immediately--still woke up throughout the night with severe nausea, but since unisom is a sleep aid it helped my sleep through it a bit. The next morning took another 1/2 unisom and vitamin B6, and that day I didn't throw up at all! Started doing unisom and B6 just at night, and in general I'm doing better. Still only able to work about 1/2 day though before I get too nauseous and have to go home. One thing I've found is that cold drinks help a lot--I want everything iced, even put ice in my cereal! Lemon water is good and I've heard that hard candies like jolly ranchers help too, but still haven't tried that one yet.
  • For me - rice krispies treats and gatorade really really helped!  Weird I know but worked for 3 weeks straight!

  • Ginger ale.  Sounds cliche but works for me!

  • Soda crackers beside the bed and at hand at all times.  Try to have a bagel or two pieces of toast before bed too... waking up hungry at 2 am is killer... Again, scarf a few soda crackers as soon as you get out of bed in the morning.  Good luck!
