I've been bleeding since the delivery 3 weeks ago but it was on the lighter side. Today it's been much heavier. Is this my period coming or does the post-delivery bleeding become heavier at times? Is it too soon to be getting my period?

I believe I bled for about 5 weeks and then I stopped and then had a period maybe a week or two later. I can't fully recall. What I do recall was checking with a PA friend of mine because it seemed like mine would get lighter and then all the sudden pick back up again. She said that was normal and only a concern if I started passing large clots.
If you have any concerns at all however, call your doctor or his/her nurse....that is what they are there for.
I am so sorry you are going through this. The post-partum stuff after a loss just really, really sucks. I felt like it was a kick in the stomach every single day.
Hugs,
Jenn
We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013. We love her to pieces.
We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011. She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.
I don't think it's too early. My doctor told me after the loss that "textbook" would be getting my period 28 days after I delivered, but that most women's bodies are not textbook so it really could be anytime.
I bled for 2-2.5 weeks after the delivery (and d&c for the placenta). And then 4.5 weeks after the delivery I had one day of bleeding. I still don't know if that was a period or what, but I had PMS hormones that day like I have never experienced. I often get pretty moody and down ~1-2 days before my period, but that day I just sat and cried all day long about losing the baby.
3 weeks after that I got a more normal period and since then have been back on my usual 28/29 day cycle.
I think miscarriages, deliveries, d&cs, etc. often mess up your body for a bit afterward and everyone is different in what that looks like.

Like you I thought the same thing. I bleed for four weeks then stopped for a week or so. Then it come back heavy again. I called the doctor to verify with them if it could be my period. Unfortunitly they told me that your period shouldn't come back until post. 6-8 weeks. That it is common to have decrease to increase amount of bleeding. It doesn't hurt to call your doctor to check with them and see. That is what they are there for. Hopefully they will tell you good news!! FX

I bled for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks after that I bled for 2 days. It was lighter than a normal period for me, but it was bright red whereas the pp bleeding had been slowly tapering off to pink then brown then yellow. But then it took another 5+ weeks to get a regular period, when it did come it was heavier & lasted longer than a normal period for me.
I actually went to urgent care to get that 4 wk pp bleeding checked, cause I was so nervous. They couldn't tell me if it was my period or not but they could tell that nothing was wrong so at least it eases my mind a little. I'd say call & ask to be seen; it can't hurt.

I bled for two weeks and then it stopped all together. I thought I would be safe to do some light exercise, but the increased activity caused me to start bleeding again. I bled for another 3 days. Four and a half weeks after our loss I got my period. It's a terrible experience after losing a child. So sorry you're dealing with this now.
