Nap time and falling asleep

How long does it take for your LO to actually fall asleep once you've put them down for a nap?

DD fusses and "scoots" around in her crib for a good 20-25 minutes before she falls asleep... wondering if that's average or not.

Re: Nap time and falling asleep

  • DD is not a great napper. She'll usually take three 30-45 minute naps a day. She does STTN, though, so I'm not too worried about it. We don't do scheduled naps. We only put her down when she is tired (unlike in the evening when she has a bedtime). So she's asleep after one round of music on her mobile.

We used to have to trick her into napping with walks in the stroller, drives in the car and falling asleep on our chest but for the last couple of weeks, she's been letting us put her in the crib for naps. This is huge for us!

  • What's normal is what is normal for your baby, I think, and I will venture to guess you'll receive a wide range of responses. DS can take anywhere between 2 - 20 minutes to fall asleep. It depends on if he's overtired or in the middle of a developmental milestone, etc.

  • No more than 5 minutes. If he's still talking and fussing after 10 minutes, I know he's not really tired enough to nap.
