Has anyone else used prune juice to help LO go? Do you mix it with formula or give it straight? Also do you give it at the same time of a regular feeding or in between? Thanks!
No experience personally, but I know my sister got pureed prunes for her LO. Gerber makes plain prunes as one of their stage 1 foods.
This is what I used to do for DS. They are so sweet - he loves them. Sometimes I mixed it with pear pureed also to reduce the sweetness of it. (I would do just straight if I were you).
My pedi told me not to mix it with formula but to do 1 ounce water and 1 ounce prune juice or white grape juice. He said the prune juice should be the kind with the pulp. You give the mixture twice a day (morning and evening). My pedi was very specific in saying that it should not be mixed with the formula. Another problem with feeding LO pureed prunes is that he/she probably won't actually ingest enough to help with any constipation issues.
My pedi said to mix with water (1 oz. juice, 1 oz. water). He also said not to give prune juice to LO if it has been open for more than 7 days. They recommended freezing it in ice cube trays and pulling it out as needed.
Instead of prunes I'd give them flax oil. Good for them, more effective, and you can just add a teaspoon into their bottle. Google it, Dr. Sears and many other doctors recommend it.
Flax oil will help him have a bowel movement? If the answer is yes.. Thank you do much I much more prefer to use this instead Karo syrup or juice.. Never heard of this!

Yes! It's awesome. We give it to both our boys who've always had slight constipation issues. I struggled with my older son for a year to find something that worked, and then was at a wedding and happened to start talking to a pediatrician from Stanford, and he told me to do flax oil. From there on out, it was a godsend.
Here's what Dr. Sears says:
Flax oilis a favorite. A healthy alternative to mineral oil is flax oil, which not only has laxative properties, but is a valuable source of omega 3 fats as well. (Although you may hear that mineral oil is a good oil to relieve constipation, because it is a mixture of hydrocarbons dried from petroleum products, I have never been convinced of its safety. And, unlike flax oil, it certainly has no nutritional benefits.) Unlike mineral oil, which slides through the intestines, possibly taking vitamins with it, flax oil is a nutrient that facilitates absorption of the vitamins.
Dosage of flax oil: Infants: one teaspoon a day Toddlers: two teaspoons a day
