strange behavior from my dog

I'm puzzled by my dog's behavior. She never, ever comes upstairs. She always sleeps on her bed in the living room. Yesterday morning we found her outside of our bedroom door and last night she slept on the bath mat in our upstairs bathroom. Has anyone else's dog acted strange lately? She seems to be healthy and ok. I'm sure it's just be a coincidence.

Re: strange behavior from my dog

  • I've noticed a couple women post that their dogs started acting weird before they went in to labor so maybe this is a good sign!

  • Sometimes they just know.  It's very strange how that works.  Ours has been just as ridiculous as usual, though. :P

Mine are ridiculous too, they have no idea I'm pregnant, even when my Chihahuha sits on my stomach and the baby kicks him. I love them to death but I wish they were a little more intuitive!

I didn't think mine had a clue this entire time either. She's been the same as usual except since yesterday. It's wild what animals can sense. Hopefully she senses a baby coming soon :-)

  • My dogs definitely know something is up. My chihuahua has become my shadow and follows me everywhere. But I think he knew I was pregnant before I did.

So your dog may have just gone upstairs to be close to you.

  • I have been a dog trainer for a long time and my husband and I own a doggie day care.  I would say 80% of the dogs here know and act very funny with me.  My own dog, who is as independent as they come, will NOT leave my side.  If my husband is home he will do his own thing, but with the hours we keep, he rarely is.  Even when I wake up 800 times a night to pee, he jumps straight up and follows me, which he has never done except for the past two weeks.  Dogs know way more than we will ever understand.

  • It is pretty amazing how much dogs know. I'm sort of surprised that it took her this long to realize something is going on. Maybe it's because I'm 38 weeks and I'm more vaulnerable or getting close to labor. Who knows...it is very interesting though.
  • Yes, my dogs definitely know something is going on. They have been following me around non stop, it drives me crazy sometimes!!
  • My weimaraner has been following me around for the past 3 days.  He follows me everywhere and then lays on the floor next to me when I stop.  He is NEVER like this with me.

My black lab has been laying right in front of the crib for the past 3-4 days too.

I'm curious to know if they are anticipating my labor.
