BFP's not getting dark as fast as I want them too..help!

Hello all! I just got my first BFP on Saturday 6/9. It was pretty faint but definitely there. I went Saturday afternoon and got a FRER and positive on there. I have been testing every morning and the positives on my wondfo are getting a little darker but not much. I took another FRER this morning and it was a tiny bit darker but not as much as I feel it should be by now. I know in the beginning of a pregnancy your HCG levels should be doubling and I figured my BFP's would get a lot darker faster.

I'm not 100% sure when I ovulated so I'm not exactly sure how far along I am and I have my first appointment just to confirm the pregnancy tomorrow so i'll know tomorrow but now i'm freaking myself house. Shouldn't the tests be darker from the first day I get my BFP to now 4 days later? Any insite or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  • The color of the line does not indicate how pregnant you are. https://www.peeonastick.com/hptfaq.html  (see #8 and 9 of FAQ)

This.  I think as long as they aren't getting fainter, you're just fine.  Don't stress about it, you'll drive yourself crazy!  With DD I peed in a cup and then dipped a test..didn't believe my eyes, and dipped a few more.  They were all the same kind of test (FRER) and some were darker than others...with the same pee!  Sometimes the tests just have different amounts of dye and such.  So no worries :)

  • Thank you ladies! I know i've read a line is a line, but with both my previous pregnancies I got pretty dark positives by the time I tested, which I'm sure I was further along then.

    Thank you for the insight!

  • If you're getting positives then you can stop testing. You're going to drive yourself crazy. A positive is a positive regardless of the darkness of the line. You're either pregnant or not - it's not a little pregnant or super pregnant. Pregnant is pregnant, my dear. Smile

  • As a fellow POAS addict, let me tell you that you've only been testing for 4 days, so there's no reason to worry. I got my first BFP on 6/3 at 9dpo, and it was one where I had to hold it just right in the light to see it. I had betas drawn at 11dpo and 13dpo because of my previous m/c, and the numbers were 48 and 150. At 13dpo when my beta was 150, my line on the Wondfo was still pretty light. Much lighter than I would have expected for an hcg level like that. The line didn't start to get "dark" in my opinion until about 15dpo, when my hcg was probably around 300 (no beta to confirm that, but since my doubling rate was 29 hours, that's a very conservative guess). It wasn't until today, at 18 dpo (conservatively guesstimated hcg of 800), that the test line was almost as dark as the control line on the Wondfo.

In other words - don't worry about how quickly the line is getting dark. Stop POAS - don't follow my example. :-)

  • I was still getting squinter lines on Dollar Store tests the day before my 124 beta level was drawn. I'm starting to hate HPTs for that reason; they really can't detect rises in hcg.

  • If it isn't dark enough for you, do a digital test :)

Also, what are they doing for your confirmation appt? The women's center by me said they only do a pee test this early. But I have heard of some women getting ultrasounds this early.

the appointment will be pointless because they'll do nothing different then you've already done.  I had an u/s at 4w3d and we didn't see anything.  its too early.

I'm not 100% sure what they will do with me being this early, probably just a pee test and possibly blood work to test my levels. I'd love an ultrasound but like pp said I doubt they will see anything as i'm so early. I also want  a better idea of how far along I am, because based on my LMP i'd be closer to 5 weeks, but FF said i'm closer to 3 weeks based on my temps and CM for ovulation. We will see :-)
