I just had my emergent c section yesterday morning. I am in a heck of a lot of pain. I am wondering about how long does that incision pain continue. =(
The first 3-4 days are the worst for pain. Are you taking the pain meds? I made sure to take mine for the first week and then after that Motrin was enough for me. 1 week PP I was feeling better, just sore. 2 week PP I was able to move around without being in much pain at all.
Days 1-3 I was in hardly any pain because we were in the hospital from Friday until Monday and I was getting a Percocet pill and tributiline (sp?) Which is basically really great ibuprofen through my IV port. Days 4-6 I was perfect at taking my meds but just slightly sore like mild period cramps. Days 7&8 were very busy though and not only did I over do myself but I also wasnt taking my meds on time and ended up really sore. Last night I forgot to take anything at all so it's been 12 hours without anything and I feel really good. Unfortunately I think I may have to poop soon and may really regret it. Lol sorry tmi.
My very worse day of pain was day 4 when my milk came in and the uterine contractions picked up. The first week was rough. From there I pretty much felt better every day.

They took off the dressing on my c section incision and OMG that hurt! Between the tape on my stretch marks and the pulling on the belly and staples... OUCH! I am still hurting from that. It's killer stiff feeling. I want to take a shower but I have to wait til my med's don't have me so loopy and the records lady gets back with the birth certificate stuff. She said she would be right back and its been over an hour! All this pain sucks!!
Days 1-3 were the worst as far as pain for me. It did get better the more I was up and moving around. My suggestion is to keep up with your pain medication for the first week or so whether or not you are feeling pain or not. After take it when you need it, but before the pain gets really bad. Make sure to get out of bed as often as possible for a few minutes even if that is just to take a walk to the bathroom to brush you teeth, wash your face or something. Or take a short walk in the halls. The more you get up and moving the better it will be.
I also found that while most of the time they put an ice pack on your incision for the first few hours or so after for swelling, keep having the ice pack on for the first few days also helps along with keeping a pillow over your stomach will also help.
Just remember as hard as it is now it does get better. Just do not over do it or you will go back to square 1. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Hang in there and be sure to take meds!!! Days 2 and 3 were by far the worst. It started getting better on day 4 and by day 8 I was out with the stroller and even walked a mile, albeit slowly.
It sucks, but get up and walk around as soon as they will let you and take something. It really does make you feel better. Don't overdo it though just maybe up and down the hall one time. The first 2 weeks were the worst for me, but after you get your staples out you will feel sooo much better and by week 3 and 4 you will be almost 100% yourself. Mine was 6 weeks ago and I feel great. We've even had sex!!!
I had sharp pain in the area of the incision for the first week. That went away rather quickly. The pain I had trouble with was a sharp stabbing pain in my right side that lasted for about 5 weeks. It was caused by the internal stitches. The ibuprophen helped me alot the first week. As long as I could keep the swelling down I was able to feel better and didn't require as much pain medication.
I had my DD on a monday and by friday I was feeling somewhat normal. Keep on top of the pain meds and you have to get up and walking as much as you can!
First 5 days were painful. Not constant pain but I certainly knew I had had surgery.
After that I was able to reduce down my pain meds and off the narcs completely by day 8 or 9. I am two weeks out now and am moving completely normal. I sometimes have little twinges but nothing painful, just a reminder to slow down.
