For the first time EVER, I think Im starting to have some constipation issues, its getting a lot harder to go (literally and figuratively LOL) I get plenty of fiber in my diet so Im thinking its time to start a stool softner.
How does the process work? What is the medication called? Is it a pill, powder? Do you take it daily as proflactive treatment or do you take it when it seems like you need it?
Re: Poop issues
I take Colace when I'm really bad. Having a glass of OJ in the morning seems to help, too.
ETA: Colace is a pill. You can take it everyday or as needed.

This. If it doesn't work right away, don't be surprised. It does take a few doses after the initial/at least a day to kick in. It's not a laxative, so don't expect to just start running to the bathroom every few minutes. It will help though! I could NOT have made it through first tri without it.
SCANDAL!
I have constipation dominant IBS, so I was a mess before I even got pregnant! I would track how much fiber you are eating...everyone "thinks" they are getting enough, but most Americans do not get enough...at least 28 grams a day is good. If you truly are getting enough fiber, don't take fiber supplements like Metamucil, it's not going to help and probably will make you more gassy/bloated than you already are. Green leafy veggies work wonders, I try to have at least one serving a day and notice a difference if I go a few days without. I take probiotics, but I'm not 100% sure they really do anything. Hot coffee, like someone else mentioned usually does the trick for me too, especially since I rarely drink it these days...and that works almost immediately, unlike stool softeners which take a few days. I drink red raspberry leaf tea for uterine health, but it helps with gi issues as well, and I just started an alfalfa supplement at my midwive's suggestion, and that has been a huge help! As always, water and exercise are important.
Good luck!
Thats what its called! I forgot
