Headaches! Quick question :)

Hello! I've been dealing with m/s today (as usual) and now I have a headache! This is my first pregnancy so I wasn't sure... but it is ok to take tylenol or some kind of pain reliever for the headache? I don't want to do anything that would hurt the baby, so I haven't taken anything for it yet.

If any of you ladies could help, that would be awesome! :)

  • Acetaminophen is fine to take, which is what Tylenol is.

  • Tylenol is fine. However, I have found that a simple can of coke is a much better cure. Not much caffeine in it either.

  • I have the worst headache today too! No fun! I usually try to wait it out, drink lots of water and then try a wee bit of caffeine. Today after 8 hours and lots of water I broke and took two tylenol. It kind of helped but also made me feel all medicine heady, but I am a medicine wimp.

Tylenol is fine to take. Kellymom.com has a list of acceptable medications.

  • I hear ya! I'm 12 weeks today and the headaches started a few days ago. Late afternoon they set in, and stick around til bedtime.

I've read they're normal, and tylenol is okay to take. However, I've heard you're only supposed to take one dose a day. Not sure though - going to ask my doc at the next appointment. I hope it's not true, because rationing the one dose is driving me crazy!

  • I've been having HORRIBLE headaches. My doctor told me to take extra-strength Tylenol.

  • Tylenol is fine, just make sure you follow the recommended dosage. Also, this will sound weird, but try water w/ a lime in it. The smell of lime, weirdly enough, helps with a headache. I don't usually buy into many home remedies, but I've tested this one and it works! Last week I had a horrible headache. I took 2 tylenol and drank a glass of water w/ half a lime in it and my headache faded in about 10-15 minutes. Granted, the tylenol was probably the main factor.

"Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?...But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:26-27&33-34
  • You can have up to 4 doses of two extra strength tylenol per day (IF NEEDED) Try to take the minimum of course, but doc made sure I knew it was safe to take more if needed.

PS, water and caffeine helps, as PP says.

  • I've been getting severe migraines.. My doctor told me to take extra-strength tylenol, but that was just not cutting it.. They would last for days on end.. The last one I had caused changes in my vision. She ended up calling me in a rx for fioricet (sp?), which is basically a higher dose of acetaminophen than tylenol with some caffeine added in there.. I can take one every six hours as needed.. If I can take that, then I would think it would be okay to take more than one dose of tylenol. =)
