  • Yep, my dr's office waits until 10 weeks...it's a long wait but worth it in the end...hang in there!

I had to wait until 10 weeks. My 1st appt is tomorrow. Just keep in mind that if you went in right now they wouldn't be able to see anything, they wouldn't be able to see a heartbeat until about 7 weeks so it is for the best to wait and not make you worry even more when they can't find a heartbeat.

Just keep yourself busy, and keep yourself healthy and know that you are growing a baby in there.

  • i was suprised even when they didnt have me come in to verify pregnancy or anything. (this is first pregnancy for me). Nurse just said we wont verify and we wont need to see you til 10weeks. I know, im prolly over thinking lol.

  • 8-12 weeks is normal. I have to wait until 17 weeks, but I have an unusual situation. Waiting sucks, but considering the fact that the only reason to have to go in earlier is if something is wrong (bleeding/spotting, usually), I'm ok with it. Try to look on the bright side and tell yourself that not having to go in means there's no obvious sign that something's wrong, and that's a good thing.

  • When I was pregnant with my first they saw me at 8 weeks, but now it 10 weeks.  I still have month before my appointment!
  • Congrats!!

I also am not seeing my Dr. until 10 weeks! This is my second and a new doctor (we moved) and they aren't verifying either. Keep in mind they can't really do anything this early! I second the keep buys! It will FLY by!!! I feel like I was in your shoes 3 months ago and I have a silly 2 year old!

  • And thinking about it, with my first they verified right away - I just met with a nurse and they did all of my history. I think they did both a urine test and a blog test but I don't remember. Then I didn't meet with the doctor until 12 weeks!! And even then they could not find the HB and had to do an US. It worked out well because we then told our family by showing them the US picture!

  • the nurse also told me that they are gonna rotate me thru the four OB's in the clinic. I understand the reasoning behind doing that but i cant say it makes me happy. I love my personal OB. he's gotten me thru an ovarian cyst, and surgury removing the cyst with the left ovary. So i have developed alot of trust and comfort with him.. i dont want to be difficult but i dont really want to see the other doctors.

  • Yeah mine was at 10 weeks too, but I heard I was lucky sometimes they don't see you till 12!! I can't imagine.

I think it's just because there isn;t a whole lot they can do that early. And if there is going to be any problems there isn't much they can do to prevent them.

So just hang in there it will come before you know it!

  • It sucks, but that's how it is.
  • My OB won't see me until week 12. Which does seem far away. However, it seems extra long when you have a history of loss. Which is the case for me.

You never know who is going to be on call when you have your baby so at least you will have met each dr. Actually the night I went into labor--a dr. from the "partner" office was on call (that I had never met) and it was very awkward having not met the person about to deliver your child.  Luckily his shift ended and another dr. from my practice (that I had met on a couple visits) delivered my son and now I am choosing him as my primary dr. on this pregancy---he was so caring and nurturing--he even teared up when he handed me my son.  And I am a person that never thought I would choose a male OB!

  • 8-12 weeks is the norm. Hang in there and H&H 9 months!

  • Goodness, that would drive me crazy to have to wait 10 weeks. Honestly I think it should be your choice how soon you want to see a doctor, especially if it's your first pregnancy. When I found out I was pregnant I called my Dr. right away and wanted to come in so they could verify. They got me in the next day, and I was a little over 6 weeks. They did blood work, and everything, then they did an internal u/s and I was able to hear the heartbeat and get measurements. I go back next week and I will be 10 1/2 weeks. I can't wait to go back! I've been so anxious! Hang in there, good luck! :)
  • I was originally scheduled to be seen at 9 weeks (tomorrow actually Tongue Tied), but due to a scheduling issue I had to be bumped back to next week.  I'll be 10 weeks at that point.  It IS hard waiting because you just want a doctor to tell you everything is okay, but really, there isn't much they can do!  I'll get an U/S at my first appointment which will be nice.  I actually wouldn't want to go in just for them to confirm the pregnancy.  I already know I'm pregnant :)

kprater, I'm in the same boat as far as being nervous and skittish! I'm also 4 weeks... I'll fortunately see my doc at 8 weeks, but when I called to make the appointment the nurse was so dry about it -- I kindof wanted someone to say "congratulations!" Maybe it's because they see all sides of an early pregnancy outcome and don't want me to be too excited too soon? Either way, CONGRATS! to you, too, and I look forward to supporting one another through this wait!

  • I don't see my MW until 12 weeks.

  • I was 8 weeks, it's normal to have to wait. I know it's tough, but it's worth it! It goes by quicker than you think :)

  • No being see until 10.5 weeks...partly, I think, because I am opting out of the Nuchal Translucency so there is no rush to get me in...I have a midwife and last time I started with a OB, which I didn't like, who had we come in earlier than 10 weeks.

  • My dr wants us to see the OB coordinator when we first find out and then meet with her around 11 weeks. She listens for the heartbeat at the 11 week appt so I guess she wants it to be really clear.
  • It's my first time pregnant and the Dr. asked me to come in the week after my period was due. To be honest, it was kind of a waste of time and I mostly wish I had not gone.  Though not requiring a lot of either, it's still time and money.

They confirmed I was pregnant (which I was pretty sure of), did a pap (I was due for one regardless), took blood and told me I'd have a long "prenatal" visit after 8 weeks.    I called about the blood work and they told me it was "normal" but didn't give me any details about it.

The reassurance that the blood was normal was the only useful thing I got out of it.

Every OB is different but where I go unless you are high risk to begin with or have bleeding (or other problems) in early pregnancy you see the NP at 10 weeks and the OB at 14 weeks. I totally understand how you're feeling. When I first heard that's how long I had to wait I was freaked out!

  • My midwife doesn't want to see me until 10 weeks either.  I'm sure that you could ask them to go in earlier if you really want to but there's really not much they can do before 8 weeks and even then you are not guaranteed to hear a heartbeat and if you don't hear it, you may end up more nervous.
