1st Trimester

Which pre-natals have you started taking?

I found out I am pregnant on Saturday and haven't looked into pre-natals yet. I want to buy some today.

Are there any that you are taking that were recommended? I want a pill, not a chewable or gummy.

  • Congrats on the pregnancy! I just found out I was pregnant on Saturday also and was going to ask this same question. :-) I used RX prenatals with both of my previous pregnancies because I found out much later on in the pregnancy then I did this time.

They are on the more expensive side, but they are organic and you take 3 smaller pills/day instead of 1 horse pill.  I take all three at once at night, as it says to take them any time of day.  This is what I have done since I started taking them when I was trying to get pregnant with my DS.

I also take the Target equivalent of Expecta for DHA.

This... I took these with my first and never got sick off of them. I always take them at night before bed.

  • CVS prenatals with DHA.  It's two pills now, which is a pain, but I love that they are affordable and regularly go on sale BOGO, which is awesome.  I took them last pregnancy, as well.

  • I'm taking Nature's Sunshine Prenatals. With these, they are REALLY easy on the stomach...you don't even have to take them with food.

Also, just throwing this out there: Don't get a prenatal with Calcium/vitamin D in them. Something in the prenatals makes it so the Vitamin D doesn't get absorbed in the body. So I take my prenatal in the morning, and take my Calcium/Vitamin D supplement at night, so my body will actually absorb it.

My sister is a representative for vitamins and knows ALLL about the different prenatals out there.

I'm taking this one too. I like it, but I have to make sure that I eat a lot when I take it. I think that it contributes to my nausea if I don't.

  • I have been taking the CVS version of One-a-Day prenatal, plus the DHA supplement.  No side effects! :-)

Same!  And they are way cheaper on Amazon, FYI.  No stomach upset and no constipation. You do have to take 6 pills a day though.   I also add an additional 1000iu of Vitamin D and 500mg of Calcium each day since I dont get much dairy or sun.

  • I take One a day with DHA also. This is my second and I took one a day with my first too!

  • Eat something before you take your vitamin. It made me so sick at first, but doctor recommended to eat something before taking it.
  • Rx from my OB called Pregvit Folic 5. Naturopath also recommended calcium, vit D supplement and fish oils.
