New to The Bump

Greetings from a new member

Hello, everyone. Just wanted to introduce myself after lurking for a couple weeks, after taking a test and realizing it was positive.

We haven't gone to a doctor yet to get any official results, mainly because of the insurance situation. Who knew how complicated things can be without being insured. Right now we have to wait until the 1st of next month to receive any type of coverage, and that's if we are accepted. In the meantime, I'm reading up on as much as possible so I am educated about the things I need to be. We've estimated that I'm about 6-8 weeks in. We haven't told our families yet for obvious reasons.

I never realized how incredibly stressful it could be to deal with the financial aspects of being pregnant. My husband has a decent paying job, but the insurance at his job would mean as much as paying for our mortgage. It's not something we can afford. I am self-employed, and did not sign up for any type of medical coverage. Together we make "too much" to qualify for any type of state assistance, not that we were aiming to go that direction. But the prospect of having to pay in full all the expenses that come along with what is supposed to be a really joyful time in our lives, I can't help be feel a little overwhelmed.

So thank you for letting me introduce myself and vent a little. Looking forward to joining in on the discussions.

  • Welcome! I do not know where you are in the country but I know that several hospitals in my area discount tremendously if you pay in full before the delivery. You may want to check with your local birthing centers and hospitals to see if you could get a discount if you pay before the baby gets here.

    Hope this helps!

  • Thank you! I didn't even realize that pre-paying was an option, so I will check into that!
