June 2012 Moms

Way to be on the ball work...

So when my team lead found out I was pregnant he decided he needed to hire a temp to cover my job. They have known forever now that my due date is June 25th. I also told them as soon as I found out 3 weeks ago that my doctor was inducing me a week early on the 18th because LO keeps falling behind in size. Here I sit at work with no temp to train still. I hope they hurry because last week at my appointment my doctor said at my next appointment (this Wednesday) if the swelling in my feet/ankles/legs got worse they were pulling me from work. And it has gotten a lot worse. So basically I have today and tomorrow to train somebody. What a train wreck!

  • Sounds like it.  Their problem if they decide to do nothing!  You've done your part.

  • i put in my letter with my last day back in march(!!!). we interviewed for my replacementa week before my last day and by the time i finished work they still had not made an offer. i left and didn't think anything of it. they had lots of notice of when i would be done. i left an exit plan but they have to figure out the rest!

  • Start documenting.  I created a whole "How to" do my job.  So, at least you can leave feeling like you did what you could to help them prepare.

  • With my first baby, I gave my work tons of advance notice. In the end, they didn't even seriously look for a suitable replacement. Instead, they guilt-tripped my poor assistant (who was quite happy working part-time and not qualified for the role) into doing it. This was after she told them numerous times she didn't want to do it and didn't want to go full-time. Whatever. I figure, if a company can't get it together it's their problem, not mine.

We have to document everything we do. It goes into an online manual just in case something happens and somebody has to cover for you. So everything is already documented. There's nothing else I can really do except train her, but without her here, I can't do that either
